Although the term "graphic" and "Graphic Design" are inventions of the twentieth century , the history of graphic design follows that of humankind from the caves of Lascaux to the neon signs advertising the district Ginza in Tokyo. Since the beginning of the graphics until today, when the visual communication has become ubiquitous, it has always been difficult to trace the line of distinction between graphic design and advertising art, with which shares some design principles, theories, practices and languages. An initial response might be to define advertising as a practice whose ultimate goal is selling products and services while the design seeks to order the information to shape ideas and communicate feelings through graphical objects.

The cave paintings of Lascaux and the birth of writing in Mesopotamia in Sumer , can be regarded as cornerstones of visual communication which lead to rogue pvp simulations in complex that we enjoy today. Subsequently, the graphics will become the monitor human and especially that of writing and the diffusion images.During a period from 700 BC. AD until the late 70s of xx century , the history of printing and writing typographical corresponds with a graphic essentially built around the letter: the Phoenician script (before 1200-1100 AD), the Roman capital, then the tiny Carolingian (or Caroline), calligraphy and typography Gothic Gothic used by Johannes Gutenberg (c. 1440).

The Graphics Bible he made in 1444-1445 in Mainz is the first major work done with this new technology that is printing by movable metal type. His invention will allow a wider dissemination of books, that was previously impossible. Aldus Manutius , it is considered a second generation printer, he developed a style and structure for his books which is still of use. This period is often defined as a humanist because of employment during the Renaissance of Italian handwriting that we call humanistic writing.

In the early nineteenth century , the popularization of lithography frees the designer of any professional formal constraint: the creative imagination can then be expressed. At the end of the nineteenth century , we see an effort, especially in the United Kingdom, to create a distinction between the arts and applied arts. Indeed, from 1891 to 1896 William Morris publishes the most significant books on graphic art movement Arts and Crafts (literally, "arts and crafts) and selling, proves that there is a market for graphic art particularly in creating fighting sequences for computer games such as rogue pvp combat for WOW . In France and Belgium, the William Morris movement inspired Art Nouveau and Art Deco .
