The benefits of owning a Windows Mobile Phone
Windows Mobile for phones haven't been in the news lately because of the iPhone with it's snappy look and feel and Android phones with their support from Google, a lot of free features and support for full Google integration.
With all these new devices with shiny graphics, amazing speed and full web integration Windows Mobile has mostly been depicted as the ugly stepchild in the smartphone world. But for the more serious user Windows Mobile has quite a bit to offer.
Active sync
One of the biggest features of any Windows Mobile phone is to completely integrate it with an exchange account. This enables seamless integration with your office mail, calendar, tasks and of course contacts. There has been support in Windows Mobile for years and years, and such it has been perfected over time. All the data on your phone is instantly updated and you will be able to work from anywhere.
Turn by turn Navigation
It took some time for iPhone and Android to get turn by turn navigation for their respected platforms. Windows Mobile has had this support for years and years. Tom Tom, Navigon, route66, McGuider, just a few turn by turn navigation packages that work for any Windows Mobile from version 5.0 and up. Giving the user freedom to pick any of these software packages, freedom of choice is always nice. On iPhone you kind of have to go with Tom Tom that has only recently been released.
Devices that support WVGA
WVGA screens run at 800x480 pixels widescreen. The only mobile phones that currently work with this high resolution are Windows Mobile Phones. Phones like the HTC Touch HD, HTC Touch Pro 2 and the Diamond 2 all use these resolutions, they are absolutely amazing for browsing the internet (so far my best experience has been with Opera Mobile 9.5 and 9.7). Android and iPhone has so far been stuck to HVGA resolution which shows a lot less pixels and makes it harder to navigate a website.
Not only web surfing looks great on big screens but also some games run great on a WVGA resolution. Although there haven't been that many out so far, developers for Windows Mobile are picking up the pace and releasing more and more each day. We can look forward to a lot of entertaining coming to Windows Mobile when the marketplace releases on 7 October.
These are just some of the benefits that comes with owning a Windows Mobile smartphone. And in one week, Windows Mobile 6.5 will be released and a few new smartphones with it. Windows Mobile 6.5 has a lot of new features that will certainly improve the 'dusty' image that it had for so long.
