Sony Ericsson PhoneCredit: produces some premium quality mid to high priced phones. Sony uses the Android operating system and produces phones from budget to higher end. We will take a look at what might be the best new Sony phones for 2012.

The Nozomi smart phone is supposed to be Sony Ericsson's flagship. The stylish device with a matte finish obviously targeted at the premium end of the market in 2012. The specs include a 720 x 1280 resolutions 4.3 inch touch screen, a dual core processor, HDMI port, front and rear facing cameras and a stylish glass button bar which is intrinsic to the design.

This phone may well be Sony's best new phone into 2012 and as it's supposedly already been tested in Hong Kong, it could easily be released in the first quarter in 2012. Its cost will mean that its highly likely you will want to buy this phone in some kind of mobile phone deal or contract, rather than pay as you go.

Xperia Arc S

The Xperia Arc S features a 1.4 GHz single core processor, and 8.1 megapixel camera and a 4.2 inch display. Although it was launched in 2011, it will be one of the dominant Sony phones for the first part of 2012. It runs android 2.3.4 and has a version of Sony Ericsson's timescape UI which provides some subtle improvements to the android user experience.

The phone also has technology like xLOUD , Facebook integration and a proprietary video store. As one of Sony's best phones for the start of 2012, but I would expect that it will be replaced with an upgraded model or a completely new model by mid-to late Q3.

Xperia Ray

The Xperia Ray has an 854x480 display, eight megapixel camera and android 2.3. It was released in August 2011 and so an updated version will appear sometime in 2012. It does have a planned upgrade to android version 4.0, from the existing 2.3. It has a 1 GHz processor and is a midrange phone suitable for those of us who want a solid android experience.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini and Mini Pro

These phones are the smaller, less expensive android phones from Sony. They are very compact so that they will easily fit into pockets or bags, making it a good choice if you need a compact phone for 2012. They both possess 3 inch displays which come with Sony's proprietary Bravia Engine. The Xperia Mini and Mini Pro are inexpensive so you might not need to buy them on a mobile phone contract.

The Experia Mini comes in four colours and has a 1 GHz processor and has an improvement in battery life over the previous version. It also has the accolade of saying that it is the smallest smart phone with 720p video recording available.

The Experia Mini Pro has the same 1 GHz processor and battery but adds a slide out QWERTY keyboard and front facing camera. This makes it perfect for those of us who love to write lots of text messages and emails. Sony has made some big claims about the keyboard, saying that it is very finger friendly and accurate to type on, though I would try it first as the keyboard is quite small. These phones are some of the cheapest mobile phones from Sony, and won't have to be bought as some sort of mobile phone deal.
