The cons of the Virtual Assistant Industry

Although the Virtual Assistant (VA for short) industry is a rising and growing industry there are many drawbacks. Here are a few of the cons of the VA industry:

1. Although in the United States of America Virtual Assistants is more well known in Europe it is a new but emerging industry. There maybe employers who do not even know what a Virtual Assistant is.
2. If you have children or other disturbances it may cost you clients. Working from home is available in this industry but you will need to ensure that when you are working you are not distracted and can get the job done.
3. You will need to market yourself. You need to be able to attract new clients and keep them too. You do need to be a people-person to do well.
4. You may have to pay fees when joining Virtual Assistant jobsites.
5. There is competition. This is a lucrative industry with many benefits and there are plenty of others looking for work like this.
6. You can charge what you want but this will depend on the services you provide.
7. You may be required to buy new equipment to provide better services to clients. This will come out of your own pocket.
8. You will not get special perks such as health insurance etc.

The VA industry is a fun industry to work in. It is best to assess both the pros and the cons before you make a decision to work in this industry so you know what you are letting yourself in for. Good luck!

The best advice for hiring a 'virtual assistant' is to know the person you are hiring.
