What is the Magic Kingdom?

Walt Disney World has inspired the dreams and fantasies of adults and children for over 40 years. It is a place that a lot of people tend to visit at least once during their lifetime.  While the Magic Kingdom is normally tailored more towards kids, grown-ups should have no trouble being entertained as well. Some people such as single’s and married couples with no children believe that a Walt Disney World vacation is simply for the kids tend to overlook the many grown-up entertainment options available throughout the park.  Needless to say, if you have kids, you can enjoy your vacation by experiencing the theme park through their eyes.

The theme park resort is a world-famous family vacation destination and theme park. When you decide to go to the park, be ready to spend a good chunk of change, and you should count on spending at least a week at Disney World because the place is so vast and there is so much to do and enjoy. The company has in the past few years carefully planted lots of tourist traps on their property to help separate tourists from their money.

The theme park was built by world-famous entertainer and motion picture creator Walt Disney who was born on Dec 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. Disney World, which is now called the Magic Kingdom, was a huge construction project and was built by making dozens of canals and levees, and involved the draining an entire lake.   The park opened the doors on Oct 1, 1971, and it included a Magic Kingdom area that is similar to Disneyland. It also included hotels, golf courses, campgrounds, and some shopping villages.  As soon as the park opened up, Walt Disney World rapidly grew to become one of the world's top vacation destinations. Today the park is around 30,000 acres in size. While it's true that the park is frequently associated with Orlando, Florida, a sizable slice of Disney is actually located in Kissimmee, Florida.

The theme park covers just about 47 square-miles, and consists of 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, more than 20 on-site hotels, and has nearly 60,000 cast members. Walt Disney World has two of the world's most famous water theme parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, and includes two shopping and entertainment regions, Downtown Disney and Disney's Boardwalk that provide extensive shopping, entertainment, and a wide range of dining options.

Rides are unquestionably the most enjoyable and popular part of the entire park providing thrills and chills for everybody, and standing in line waiting to ride them is now a thing of the past. You can enjoy a frightening visit to the Haunted Mansion, go on a fascinating Jungle Cruise or take it easy with a walk down the Hall of Presidents.

A number of the Magic Kingdom's most beloved rides are based on Disney movies, for example, Peter Pan's Flight, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin to name a few.  Disney has also created a couple of full-length movies that are based upon some of their most popular and beloved rides such as the Pirates of the Caribbean's, which is a ride which has its beginnings inside the Disneyland theme park ever since the fifties, however don't assume the rides have much in common with the films.

The Magic Kingdom is definitely one of the most famous amusement parks in the world; it makes people of all ages feel like kids again.  You'll find attractions for children such as the Dumbo ride, family attractions like Mickey's PhilharMagic, and high-speed adventure on rides such as the Great Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain.  Walt Disney World continues to be the main destination inside the Central Florida area, even though other companies have built theme parks, major resorts, and attractions designed to compete with Disney. These include amusement parks, like Universal Orlando Resort and Sea World which are trying to attract guests from Walt Disney World.  Universal Orlando Resort is trying to make itself in to a more adult-like version of Walt Disney World, which includes two theme parks, a nightclub complex and three resorts.

Is it possible to find a better summer vacation destination than Walt Disney World?  Countless multitudes of annual visitors don't seem to think so! For them, a vacation at Happiest Place on Earth is definitely exciting, and more entertaining than ever before.
