Bible prophecy - Israel Rebuilt
Rebirth of a Israel as a Nation
We now know that the Bible clearly states the date and other specific details of Israel's return to an independent nation. But God's prediction of the exact date of Israel's rebirth was not made known to us until after the prediction had been made. This prophecy starts in Ezekiel 37:11-14:
This prophecy and the exact date is given in Ezekiel 4:3-6:
These verses are misleading for us because days are not actual days and the calendar was different back then. In his book The Signature of God, Grant Jeffrey discovered the solution to the confusion of the duration of Israel's dispersion and return to Israel. In this passage, Ezekiel says that each day is worth one biblical year in the terms of Israel's worldwide dispersion. So if we add up 390 years for Israel's sins and 40 years for Judah's sins, we get a total of 430 years.
The starting point for this punishment is the spring of 536 B.C. after the first 70 years of captivity in Babylon. The Israelite people had already been through 70 years of punishment in Babylon so we subtract those 70 years from the total 430 years to get 360 years.
History and the Bible both tell us that Israel did not repent of its sins at the end of the 70 year captivity in Babylon. God sent them into exile in the first place because they refused to obey or repent. In Leviticus 26, God tells Moses about the punishments that the people of Israel would suffer if they disobeyed Him. These verses from Leviticus 26:17-18 give us an idea of the amount of time they would be punished:
This passage shows that God promised to punish them seven times over if they still disobeyed him. There were 360 years left in their punishment on 536 B.C. If we multiply this number by 7, we get 2,520 biblical years.
An important note is that biblical years were made up of 360 days instead of 365 like our current calendar. In Genesis 7:11-8:4, Moses states that the Flood had a period of 150 days when the floodwaters were at their height lasted five months. So 30 days in each month times 12 months is 360 days in a year. So, this prediction would have been fulfilled 2,520 biblical years of 360 days each starting on 536 B.C. To calculate the exact date, we have to convert biblical calendar into modern calendar. We do this by first determining how many days were in this prophecy. 2,520 biblical years times 360 days per year equals 907,200 days.
To convert this to modern calendars, we divide this by our average day in a year of 365.25 (the .25 is for leap years that occur every 4th year). This equals 2,438.8 years.
So Israel's worldwide dispersion should end 2,438.8 years after the end of the Babylon captivity in the spring of 536 B.C. To calculate the date, we subtract 536 B.C. from 2,438.8 years, because B.C. stands for "Before Christ". So the year after 536 B.C. would have been 535 B.C. This comes out to 1947.4, but it needs to be adjusted up one year because there was no year "0". So our final date on our modern calendar is 1948.4.
Using this date, the rebirth of Israel would need to have happened four tenths of the way through the year 1948 for this prophecy to have been fulfilled. Four tenths of a year is the middle of May so we would be looking at mid-May of 1948. The exact date that the people of Israel celebrated their independence of the reborn state of Israel was May 15, 1948. To put this in perspective, think about the fact that this prophecy was foretold 25 centuries beforehand. One other thought: No other ancient nation ever ceased to exist for a period of centuries and then returned to take its place on the stage of world history.
