Atlanta, located in the US state of Georgia, is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the country. People flock here to enjoy the city's historical landmarks and cultural diversity. The name of the city too brings forth an image of contemporary style coupled with grace and gentility that used to be prevalent here centuries ago. Adults, children and singles will find a lot of interesting things to do and see in this beautiful city.

The World of Coca Cola

This museum about the world famous soda, Coca Cola, is a fun place to spend time. Not only will you find out how the first Coke was made, but you will also learn about how this patented medicine became one of the world's most popular soft drinks. In addition, you will get a chance to sample the soft drinks manufactured by Coca Cola and also get a chance to see how bottling of the fizzy drink is done.

Zoo Atlanta

Located in Downtown, in Grant Park, this is one of the oldest zoos in the country. It is home to more than two hundred different species of animals. One of its most popular residents is the giant panda, which attracts a lot of visitors. The zoo is a great place for families to spend time and relax.

Georgia Aquarium

The aquarium has about 8 million gallons of water and it offers a fascinating glimpse of marine life and sea birds. Some of the displays include beluga whales, whale sharks and African penguins. In addition, there are number of events and even sleepovers that are organized by the aquarium to keep people educated, knowledgeable and entertained.

Stone Mountain

This recreation park is a short drive from the Downtown. It offers many activities, such as laser light show, sky rides, pedal boats, hiking, camping and even golfing. There are so many things to do here that you will never get a chance to be bored.

Fernbank Museum

If you are visiting Atlanta, you should not leave the city without going to the Fernbank Museum. While the museum's exhibits keep changing, it has some long-term exhibits that cover dinosaurs from the Mesozoic era and the way the human's sensory organs sense their surroundings. In addition, the museum also has a 5-story IMAX theater that adults and kids will certainly love.

Virginia Highland

Art and antique lovers will surely enjoy this neighborhood in the eastern part of the Midtown. After browsing through the shops and stores, you can sit down in one of the European themed restaurants or pubs and relax. This neighborhood is quaint and charming, and has a pre-Colonial ambience to it.

Buckhead

If you are looking for more upscale shopping opportunities, head to Buckhead, where you will find the famous Lenox Square Shopping Center. This center is home to some of the big brands, such as Bloomingdale's Neiman Marcus and Macy's. You will also be able to find designer boutiques, such as Ferragamo, Mont Blanc and Cartier. It is the perfect place in Atlanta to get some retail therapy!

Other Attractions:

Visit the Discover Mills shopping district outside the city to have an outdoor shopping experience. Here you will find products from Saks Fifth Avenue, Eddie Bauer, Adidas and Bass Pro Shops, among others. Try visiting this area on a nice, warm, sunny day to enjoy a unique shopping experience.

Little Five Points neighborhood in the Downtown area of the city is for people looking for cultured shopping experience. You will find art shops, bookstores, theaters and family-run restaurants in this area. The popular Variety Playhouse is also located here.

Sports lover can visit the home of the city's baseball team which is the Turner Field. If you are in town during the season, do try and cheer the team. Otherwise, in the off-season, you can take a tour of the field and then visit the Braves Hall of Fame Museum
