Things to Avoid with Espresso Pods

By | Jul 6, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

With the popularity of Starbucks and other coffee shops, many more people have had espresso. Some of them would love to have it every day, but can't afford to stop at the coffee shop whenever they want. A great alternative is to purchase an espresso pod brewer. You can brew a single cup of espresso in the comfort of you home any time you like.

There are several things that you should try to avoid when using an espresso pod:

  1. Just like any natural food product, espresso does have a shelf life. Most coffee pods will have an expiration date on them that should be observed. While the pod will not be unusable after that date, you may notice a change in the freshness or taste of the espresso. I recommend purchasing only as much as you can brew in about 60 days or so.
  2. There is an old wives tale that says that you should store coffee in the freezer or refrigerator. This is really the last place you want to keep it. The coffee can absorb any flavors from the storage. You don't want your espresso tasting like last nights garlic pasta! Keep your espresso pods in the cabinet in a cool, dark, dry place. This will insure they maintain their taste for as long as possible.
  3. While the beans are very important in brewing a good cup, the water is the main ingredient. Make sure that your water is clean and does not have any smells or tastes. If you home water is normally a little smelly or has a distinct taste, this will be transferred to the espresso. Most coffee shops use sophisticated reverse osmosis systems to removal all problems with the water. While you don't need to spend money on that type of system, using a charcoal filter water pitcher may improve the taste of your coffee and espresso.

Using espresso pods is an easy way to make that cup whenever you wanted. No need to run to the local coffee shop!
