When it comes to shopping for a cheap used treadmill, there are some basic factors worth considering. The best way to inspect a treadmill is by checking the major parts first and working down. The most important part of any treadmill is the motor and it should be your first focus. In additional to the mechanical parts there are features and accessories to consider just the same way you would if you were buying a new treadmill.

Do not misunderstand or disregard the distinction between a refurbished treadmill and a used treadmill. A treadmill is labels refurbished if it was returned by a previous customer who could not use it because of a manufacturer defect while a used treadmill actually has some wear from being used. Refurbished treadmills is a great way to save money while purchasing a product that is practically new since it has been repaired by the manufacturer before being resold.

There will be some degree of wear and tear on used treadmills and to a point it is expected. It is a good idea to look for a warranty plan that will at least cover the motor since this is the most important part and will be most expensive top repair. In many cases the original manufacturer warranty is not transferable to the second owner, so be sure to clear up the details with the seller before making a commitment.

The best way to check the quality of the motor is by turning it on. The motor should not shake or vibrate excessively nor be unusually noisy. Try turning it to different speeds and watch the belt, it should remain smooth. If you can, climb onto the treadmill to get a feel of the machine in action. The motor should not appear to struggle or be affected by your presence.

The console is the next big item that needs to be checked. Make sure that the date, time, and other displays work properly. The console should be able to record vitals accurately as well. Just like buying a new treadmill check the unit for features like pre-programmed workouts or other features you desire.

While you are on top of the treadmill, make sure the deck is wide enough to move freely and long enough to accommodate a sprinting stride. It is no fun to work out while feeling confined in mobility.

There are accessories such as a treadmill mat to go underneath the treadmill that may well be worth the investment. A used treadmill with preexisting wear will require the owner to be a little more diligent about taking care of it.
