San Francisco is a famous city in the U.S. known for its culture and its nice year round weather. Most people that visit San Francisco tend to stay within the city, but there are actually many places around San Francisco that you can visit.

The first place that you can go to is Muir Woods National Monument. This national park protects the coastal red wood trees. Red wood trees are one of the biggest trees in the world. A walk through this serene forest will calm your mind and bring you peace. The park is located north of San Francisco. Be sure that you get there as early as possible otherwise the parking lots will get full.

If you have time, be sure you make the 4 hour trip to Yosemite National Park. Yosemite is world renowned for its beauty. In the Yosemite Valley you are surrounded by mountain peaks. There are several trails that will take you to different scenic spots. One of the most popular trails there is the trail that goes to the Half Dome. This is an 8 hour one way trail which you may need to do in 2 days. Be sure to bring some camping gear with you.

On the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge is the town of Sausalito. This small town is home to the rich and has many high end boutique shops. The best thing about this town is that you can get a great view of San Francisco and Golden Gate Bridge.

For those who like to drink wine, then you can't miss out on going to Napa Valley. Napa Valley is known throughout the world for the fine wine that it produces. Take a wine tasting tour and sample the different flavors of wine. You can also stay at the quaint bed and breakfasts in the many towns that dot the area.

Finally, if you have some time, make sure you stop by Berkley. This school has many top students so it would be fun to mingle among smart people. The school also has many old buildings that are architecturally beautiful. It makes for many good photo opportunities.
