Things to do in Las Vegas in the Daytime

By Edited Jan 12, 2016 1 1

Las Vegas has no shortage of trendy nightclubs and glittering lights but some visitors may be a little lost when it comes to finding daytime activities in Sin City. Some Las Vegas tourist attractions can only be seen during the day so plan a few hours each day to enjoy some of the desert sunshine.

The Grand Canal Shoppes

Visit the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian to experience the charm of an Old World Italian village. Street performers entertain daily and include singers, dancers and living statues. The shoppes are named for the canal that flows through the mall and winds around the outside of the Venetian casino. Chartered canal rides are available via ornate gondolas complete with singing gondoliers.

MGM Lion Habitat

The Lion Habitat inside the MGM Grand Casino allows visitors to view the descendants of Leo, the original MGM Studio lion. These lions are transported from an 8.5 acre ranch to a glass enclosure inside the casino from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily as of February 2010. Admission is free as the lion enclosure is centrally located and can be viewed by guests walking through the casino area.

Stratosphere Thrill Rides

The top of the Stratosphere is the highest point of the Las Vegas strip and provides a stunning view of the city. While you may be satisfied with a lesiurely stroll on the tower's observation deck, adventurous travelers will want to try out one of the three thrill rides located high above the city. Two of the rides suspend you over the edge of the tower, 900 feet above the Las Vegas strip while Big Shot launches guests into the air to a height of 1,081 feet.

Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat

Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat is a tropical oasis in the center of the Las Vegas strip. The habitat is found within the Mirage casino and is home to black panthers, white and golden tigers, leopards, lions and white lions. The facility also contains a 2.5 million gallon dolphin habitat containing a family of bottlenose dolphins. Hours vary depending on the season but the habitat is always closed by 7 pm. Admission is $10 for children and $15 for adults as of 2010.
