Modeling is a dream for many young women. The dream life of modeling versus the reality of actually finding out , "What is modeling ?" Often an attraction for many seeking or longing for a career in modeling. You should get a realistic picture of the life of a model and decide if this is for you. There are sacrifices that you must make to pursue a career in modeling. Many models leave their friends and family behind. There is a lot of travel involved and models are always living out of suitcases.

Many professional models start careers in their early teens. They continue to attend school and give up their school breaks and summers for modeling assignments. Taking a trip to a big city spending your vacations modeling may sound like fun. This may not be  fun when you are sacrificing time with your friends and family having fun at the mall, beach, and at parties.

There are usually plenty of scams geared toward young naïve models looking to get their career jump started.  Photographers charging outrageous amounts of money to get a portfolio started for you. If a photographer attempts to get you to spend over $100-$150 for a photo session, he is unknowledgeable or scamming you. There are also men that date models to take advantage of them emotionally and financially. There are unscrupulous men all around.

The jobs are scarce and  rejection is a part of the modeling industry. Some models go on as many as 10-15  go-sees daily. Those many times , none of the clients call you back for the job after a day of aching feet. So you have to prepare yourself for Criticism, rejection, and blunt criticisms of your body features. The comments aren't meant to be personal attacks, but more of a screening process of what the client is looking for to fill the assignment. Even after a week or month of meetings or go see's you still may not have landed a job. With little to no money coming in, the idea of modeling may not be as glamorous as it sounds.

Many models are often invited to parties, charities, events, and other nightlife events. This may sound fun, but many nights out on the town can contribute to alcohol and or drug abuse.  Champagne is widely available in the fashion world. Backstage at runways shows champagne is always flowing. If you would still like a modeling career after you explore and research the topic of modeling as much as you can. Your next step is to figure out what level of model you'd like to pursue. There are three basic levels are modeling: Hobby modeling, secondary-market modeling, and big time modeling.

Hobby modeling is a type of modeling you should consider if you don't want the stress and loneliness of traveling all the time. Hobby modeling would earn little or no money. Usually taking jobs at the local level. Malls, newspapers, commercials and ads. Secondary-market models appear in catalogs, advertisements, local runways shows and regional publications. Big time models are on magazine covers, billboards, and can even travel internationally. Once you consider the pros and cons of pursuing a modeling career. Know why you would like to be a model. Also deciding what type of modeling you would like to be. Also understand the dream of being a model is usually more attractive than reality.
