TinyURLalizer - Mac App
If you spend much time on the internet, chances are you deal with long, messy links. Usually, such links are fine. However, they can get in the way sometimes - and some websites won't accept long web addresses. Sometimes you need more space to write. And, of course, a smaller URL is much easier to manage than a mile-long web address.
Twitter is one example of a site that will not accept long web links. For any update, you are only given a maximum of 140 characters.
If you want to say anything along with the web link you post, you will need to shorten it.
Twitter is but one example.
When writing an article, you may find it helpful to shorten your URLs so you don't have to insert a web address that takes up half of the post.
The uses for a shorter URL are many.
There are a number of good services for this. TinyURL is one - along with is.gd
The downfall of services like this is the fact that you actually have to go to another website just to shrink the original web address.
However, there is now a simple Mac application available for users who need to shorten web addresses frequently.
It is called TinyURLalizer. Built entirely with Apple's Xcode integrated development environment and the Applescript programming language, TinyURLalizer will work on both PPC-based and Intel-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard.
TinyURLalizer uses the website is.gd to shorten links. Contrary to what you may think the name implies, the app has nothing to do with TinyURL.com
(NOTE: This application is no longer publicly available)
On a side note, I designed the icon / logo for TinyURLalizer, so you'd BETTER like it. :D
