Tips For Your Winter Wedding Venue
There can be something magical about a winter wedding – guests are feeling festive in the run up to Christmas, the landscape can look sparkly if covered in snow, and couples can feel romantic snuggling up in front of a log fire. Summer weddings are typically more popular but there are many reasons to choose winter as the season to get married.
Firstly wedding venues are easier to find on popular weekend days and are much more economically priced. So you will most likely not have to book a year in advance to get the date you want. Also thinking ahead to your honeymoon, holiday prices are lower in winter and the weather in exotic locations can be perfect without fear of summer hurricanes ruining your stay. Getting time off work will probably be easier as well as less people are holidaying at that time of year.
So if you are tempted by a wintry wedding here are some important considerations:
- Think about how to stay warm in your wedding dress. Many dresses are strapless or come with very short sleeves so you will freeze to death as you stand outside for your photographs. Try and find a shawl or fur stole to match with your wedding dress that you can wear for outdoor photographs or just use a coat that you can quickly put on and take off as the shots are taken.
- Choose a warm and cosy wedding venue. Find a hotel with a nice roaring fire where you and your guests can warm up after being outside. Bear in mind your need for nice photographs though. Some or all could end up being taken indoors, so you need to find somewhere with nice staircases or other locations for indoor shots. Also pay attention to the time you want to get married as with shorter days the opportunities for outdoor shots are limited if you have a late wedding.
- Plan for the provision of warm drinks at both the church and wedding reception venues to keep the chills away from the guests. This could just be tea and coffee or mulled wine for something a little more adventurous.
- If Christmas decorations are not in your vision for your big day, check with your wedding venue that they will not be up when you get married. This will obviously be harder the closer you get to Christmas. If you cannot get around the fact that Christmas decorations will be everywhere, embrace it and look at it as a saving on 'your' decoration budget.
