Track Your Caloric Intake

Start off by keeping track of everything you eat and drink. Not only will you be able to stay on top of your diet, you'll also have a voice of reason in your head about not wanting to write down junk food therefore not eating junk food.

Only Drink Water

Drink water to see resultsCredit: sxc.huThe quickest way to lose weight for most people is to cut out any liquid that isn't water (milk is ok to drink also). Soda drinks are basically sugar-laden calories that don't give any nutritional value, something that needs to be dropped from your diet.

You also don't need to be drinking any sports drinks. Over time they have become more and more like soda!

Also keep in mind that water will fill your stomach up so you will not eat as much. This is a good thing if you struggle with overeating.

Portion Control

When you are trying to lose weight you need to keep responsible portions in mind. That means that everything you eat should come out of a measured bowl, not straight from the bag. When you are eating chips right from the bag there is no way to tell how much you've eaten, and since it takes up to 20 minutes for the stomach to signal the brain that it's full, you will overeat.

This also goes for what is on your plate. Always have a healthy serving of vegetables, protein, and complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are foods like wheat or whole grain and are great for your body. You want to avoid simple carbohydrates (sugar) because your life depends on it.

Learn About Substitutes

Start trading out unhealthy foods with healthier alternatives. Got a sweet tooth for dessert? Grab some fruit instead. If you really want some chips, make sure they are wheat-based and multigrain.

You will have to make some sacrifices during your weight loss journey, but you will feel better and look better once you are done.

Start Doing Cardio Exercises (Couch 2 5 k)

Cardio exercises are great for burning off the fat. They will also allow you to take in more calories everyday and still lose weight.

I recommend the couch to 5k program. Tons of other runners have used this program successfully and are now serious runners with serious results.

If you work hard enough, eat the right foods, drink responsibly, and always take in a small caloric deficit, you are guaranteed to lose weight. There is simply nothing that can physically stop that except yourself.
