Tips To Sell Settlement Payments
Selling a settlement is a very drastic step. It is normally considered as a last resort and when all avenues for getting immediate cash for an emergency have been exhausted. There are basically two ways in which to sell them.
The value of selling a monthly structured settlement payment is very difficult to determine. Factors such as how long the individual has been receiving payments and how much the initial payment was come into play as well as other variables such as the fluctuation of currency values.
Factoring companies often advertise to buy legal and other settlements through the media. These companies are often the first places that people go when they want to sell payments quickly. However, the companies calculate how much they will pay for a settlement very differently and base a large determination of what they will pay on the desperation of the seller.
When one decides to use a factoring company to sell their payments they should get at least three estimates from companies and find out who will pay the highest amount for the settlement. In some cases the amount of money one company will pay will be significantly higher than what another company will pay. Getting this information however can take a few weeks and one must be patient and take the time to get accurate quotes from each company.
When a person makes a contact to any company with the purpose to sell payments from a structured settlement they will start receiving calls, emails, and letters regarding other opportunities that are available for a fee. In some cases they will receive information from competitors of the factoring company who has bought the sellers information from a list sold by the initial company. If one is going through a traumatic period in their life these calls can become very annoying and it may be necessary to change one's phone number to get them to stop.
