Tips and Reminders to Avoid Getting Repetitive Strain Injuries

RSI or Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD) is a condition that results from repetitive, awkward, and forceful hand movements. Does this mean typing and mouse clicking can cause a person to develop RSI?   • Exercise every day. Jogging, running, cycling, and other types of exercise can regulate blood flow and prevent clogged arteries and veins.
  • When typing, do not stretch your fingers to reach certain keys. Instead you can just move your hand to reduce the stress on your fingers.
  • Move your entire arm when moving your hand. When you are typing, your hands should be above the keyboard. Your arm should help your hand when it is moving from one part of the keyboard to another. Remember to keep your wrist joints straight.
  • When writing, do not grip the pen or pencil tightly. When your hand is gripping something such as a pen, a knife, or a spoon, do not hold it too tight. This would provide stress to your fingers, which are more vulnerable to strains.

These are just some things you can do if you want to avoid having RSI or CTD. If you follow these reminders, you might get away from such injuries and continue living a healthy and stress-free life.
