Tips for Buying Patio Gazebo Canopies

By | Apr 26, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

A gazebo canopy is a great way to add some charm to your backyard and also give you the ability to enjoy the outdoors while being sheltered from the weather. Patio canopies are also a great addition to hot tubs, small swimming pools and other outdoor features in your backyard. Some people include furniture in their gazebos, while some have benches installed within the structure. Patio gazebos offer an endless amount of options and functions. They are free standing, open sided, structures that come in a variety of shapes to include square, hexagonal, and octagonal.

Patio canopies are made from a variety of materials such as wood, metal and vinyl. You can purchase them as a do-it-yourself kit or you can hire a contractor to come and custom build one. Some can even be delivered to your home already assembled. Depending on what material your patio gazebo is, the size and how you decide to have it constructed, will determine how much money it will cost. Patio gazebo canopies can be quite affordable, while large and custom made models can be on the more expensive side.

One other aspect to consider is assembly. As stated before, many come as a do-it-yourself kit. These kits are usually fairly simple to put together. Some models can be quite a project to assemble and you may want to hire someone to assemble it. Assess your skill level and determine which option is right for you. In addition, many types of canopies can be delivered to your home preassembled. However, if you are considering this option, you must consider the shipping costs. It can be extremely expensive to have an item like this shipped.

When purchasing a patio gazebo canopy, it is also important to consider where you live and what type of elements your gazebo will be exposed to. A wood canopy has a very classic look. However, they are much more difficult to maintain especially in parts of the country that are extremely dry and hot or experience extreme rain. The wood can dry out, fade or rot and always needs to be treated, sanded or re-stained every year to ensure that the structure lasts. Vinyl canopies many not give the look that you want, but they are much more affordable and are much easier to maintain. They do not fade and the maintenance that is required is usually just a thorough rinse. Canopies rarely come in metal because unless pretreated for outdoor exposure, the materials can rust or deteriorate with time.

Patio gazebo canopies are an excellent way to create an outdoor getaway in your home. While there are many aspects to consider, once the project is finally completed, you will have made a charming and inviting new retreat in your backyard.
