Satin Canvas

No glossy

Instead of a glossy print I recommend a Satin print. When buying prints, the best quality prints are canvas prints. A Satin print in Canvas is the sturdiest and the highest priced of the prints one can buy. A glossy print really gets to overpower the print itself. It can also create the impression of advertisements rather than of art. For this reason alone I recommend staying away from purchasing glossy prints and stick with a canvas Matte.

Stretched art

Satin Canvas prints are also called stretched art. It is over 20 years since prints have been able to be reproduced directly onto a canvas. Photographic images or images of paintings can now be reproduced onto a canvas and then the canvas can be stretched onto a frame. Giclee printing is a term used for ink jet printing onto canvas. Both HP and Epson have printers that are able to print directly onto a canvas cloth type surface. Technology has made a way for artists to make what they do more available to the masses. In light of its artists show value, the only real choice one would want to make is to have a canvas matte as the printing surface.

Use the heaviest

When printing to canvas use the heaviest specially canvas for the job, a universal Matte will be too light, and will crack when stretched. These canvas prints can be framed and hung on walls as works of art. Painting, landscapes, photography, and portraits can all be printed on canvas. And each will look more artistic done on canvas Matte.  Even pictures of other art forms such as statues and works of silver and jewllery look better on canvas matte.

Ad Posters

When making ad posters many now gravitate to the canvas Matte as a way to produce a more artist looking poster. It is felt that the higher quality of art work does get a better response. On that issue I am not as convinced as I believe for posters the eye is drawn quicker to the gloss print, while the mind studies enjoys the work of art on canvas Matte.  I have an article about art prints at my blog Ians Articles and Stuff

So for works of art I recommend art prints that are canvas prints.  My major tips would be to use a satin print using a canvas matte.
