Tips on How to Avoid Injuries While Inside Water Parks

Water parks in Los Angeles are often visited by people who want to cool down, relax, and have fun. However, these places are not completely safe and injury may be sustained when an accident happens to them.

Drowning normally occurs in water parks because these establishments have facilities like wetted slides and pools. In fact, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) statistics reveal that around six people drown in pools each day. The sad thing is that these accidents may be avoided if people only know how to take care of themselves when inside a water park.

Here are some tips on how to avoid being involved in a drowning accident:

1. Learning how to swim will not only save you from drowning, but will also enable you to rescue other people who are about to drown.
2. Avoid drinking /Alcoholic Beverages">alcoholic beverages before jumping into the water because it can impair your swimming abilities and prevent you from making reasonable decisions. In addition, it can also affect your coordination, balance, and diving skills. Statistics show that it contributed to around 50% of drowning incidents involving adolescent boys.
3. Stay in areas that are supervised by skilled lifeguards. Do not eat anything that can cause you to choke while playing, diving, or swimming in the water.
4. Check out the water's depth before diving into it. A 9 feet minimum depth for jumping or diving has been recommended by the American Red Cross.
5. Do not underestimate the importance of wearing your life jacket. Do not forget to wear it especially if you do not know how to swim.

Children are the ones who are most susceptible to drowning because they do not have enough knowledge regarding the dangers of swimming. In addition, they are still incapable of saving themselves when placed in a dangerous situation.

Parents are responsible in keeping their kids safe from drowning. They can achieve this goal by doing the following:

1. Order your children to stay in shallow swimming areas.
2. Do not allow your children to swim during bad weather conditions. Before going to a water park, you should listen to the news to know local weather forecasts. Stop them from swimming even at the smallest indication of a dangerous weather.
3. Supervise your children when they are around pools, even if there is a lifeguard nearby.
4. Teach your children how to swim properly.
5. Avoid being distracted while monitoring your children.
6. Do not allow your child to swim alone and teach him the importance of the "buddy system."
