Personal development can occur through reading books, interacting with other people who are successful, and watching programs that are increasing your awareness and understanding of yourself and the world around you. Personal development can occur through podcast, videos, audio books, audio cd’s and many other types of medias. There are many ways to develop you into a better person. However, personal development requires an introspection of yourself and being able to judge what improvements need to be made and then putting those ideas into action.
When you start to use introspection and are willing to be critical and creative in your personal development you will get a better idea of who you are as person. It will help you reach your goals and allow you to achieve a success that you want and dream about. I want you to take your personal develop personally. That seems to make sense. However, I want you desire these changes in personal development. I want you to need to make these changes as if your life depends on it, because it does.
So what do you need to do to achieve more through personal development? You need to look at situations and aspect of your life to determine where those changes should be made. I am going to give you some general Do’s and Don’ts in this journey of personal development.
You need get rid of the extreme stress in your life. Some stress is good. Stress motivates us to get up and go to work to pay the bills. However, this same stress out of control can cause us to be less happy and unsatisfied with life. Extreme stress can cause mental and physical problems that will not allow us to be happy and not allow us to do the things we want to do in life. In order, to become a success and achieve the Level 10 Life, you must learn to get rid of stress and/or use it to your advantage. A good way to reduce stress is to have a good plan for it. Have a to-do list. Accomplish things on that to-do list. Do not allow little problems become big problems by putting them off to another time. Procrastination causes stress, it does not alleviate it.
Become organized in your life. Bring structure to your life. We have already talked about creating a to-do list. Becoming organized is much more than a to-do list. As a matter of fact, put organizing your desk, office, car, and home on your to-do list. My wife says clutter causes her stress. It does not bother me as much, but when my wife is stress, I become stressed. Organization will help us all even if it is indirectly. Living a more organized life will boost your confidence. When things are orderly and neat will give you a sense of peace. This sense of peace will allow you to spend more of your psychic energy on the other avenues of your life.
Take care of your health. If you are feeling sick or unhealthy, there are more things for you to worry about. Getting enough sleep, eating right, and getting adequate exercise feeds the brain. When the brain is fueled up it can do wonderful things. The brain is more powerful than the most elaborate computer system in the world. I have heard we only use 8-10% of our brain. This is not true. Align your values with your daily life. Stick to your core values. It is easier to make decision without hesitation when you truly know your core values. When you do not have to question if your are being congruent in your beliefs and action, decision are easier to be made and problems are easier to be solved. The wood and steel house, built on a solid foundation is more likely to withstand the hurricane than the house built of straw on the sand. The foundation is the core beliefs and the structural materials are your actions.
Survey your progress and look to always improve. Take your major goals and break them down to smaller goals. Write those goals down. When you start to accomplish more of the smaller goals, it will encourage you to go after more. For instance, if you set a goal to lose 40 pounds and you hit that plateau after 2-3 months, that we all do, you will become discouraged and may quit. If you set a goal of losing 2-3 pounds a week, when you hit that plateau you still have the success of the past weeks to motivate you to continue. If you have never lost 40 pounds before you have no success to motivate you when you hit the plateau.
Get to know the habits of the successful people in the field you want to be in. I am not saying you should mimic them. You can mimic their actions but you cannot mimic their success. You have to measure your success on your own. You might reach the same goal as those people but you will have a different journey to reach it. Let your success be your own. However, you have to study their habits. Learn from their mistakes. Learn from their success and create your own journey of success. Who knows?
