Tips to Get in Touch With Your Own Decor Style

If you don't know what your decor style is the odds are that your room will end up looking like a hodge podge mess. This is really how people will judge your home. It also really says a lot about who you are which can be quite intimidating. Once you figure out exactly what kind of decor style you want figuring out the rest is really easy. It's just a matter of really finding your exact aesthetic and the rest almost takes care of itself.

Find one piece that you really love. You don't even need to analyze why you love it or really figure out what you are going to do with it. Your first instinct really does give you a chance to discover what you really love. This could be a large sofa or a small decorative accessory such as a vase. This can be the inspiration piece for your entire room.

Analyze the piece that you love. Consider the colors as well as the overall design style. This will help you evaluate and find out different things about yourself. It might be retro, modern, contemporary, or traditional.

Build your room out. Once you know your exact design aesthetic you can do research and look up photographs to really explore all of the different styles and colors contained in the theme so that you can find the exact look within your style that will work within your home.

Set your budget. This is going to determine how much work you're going to have to do. You can make almost any style work within almost any budget as long as you are willing to make up for your budget. This may require you to do painting, refinishing, sewing, or upholstery. It also means that you get a personal touch in your room.

Find ways to make yor rexisting furniture work within your new design aesthetic. This can be accomplished with color schemes. Just bringing in fresh color on the walls can change the look of your existing pieces. This really helps out your budget and also gives you more of an eclectic look so that you get your own touch to a very specific decorating aesthetic.

Find a genre that works for you. At first this can be quite difficult just because there doesn't seem to be one specific design style that has everything you're looking for. In this case, you can really go out on your own and marry two design styles to create a hybrid that is going to work perfectly for your budget, as well as your space. The other option is to just really explore. There are a lot of different styles out there that might not instantly come to mind. For instance you could go with a transitional kind of feeling. This is the combination of traditional and contemporary styling. It's going to give you the best of the modern and the old worlds.

Another option would be to go with an eclectic feeling. This is really where you just find all of the different kinds of pieces that you love and then use basic design principles to tie everything together. This is great if you are using a lot of the furniture that you already have but you want to go in a different direction with your new pieces. This is an opportunity to really create your own unique sense of style.

Go shopping. This is really going to help you see what you're attracted to. You don't necessarily have to buy everything that you love. However, just making mental notes of the first thing that you go to when a budget isn't a consideration is really going to give you a good sense of what your dream room would look like and what you really want. This opens up a lot when you get a lot of the barriers of your budget out of the way. Then once you know what it is you can do a little bit of bargain shopping and space planning to make sure that you get exactly what you want. You'll have to be careful with your budget in this kind of scenario just because you don't want to go overboard and instantly bring home a bunch of things and then not know how to put them together or really how to use them.

Start putting it together. Decorating can be in the planning stages for months or even years. At some point you have to decide that even if you don't have every single detail worked out you're just going to get it done. You can solve problems along the way. This is perfect because in home improvement often times things just come up as you go along and you're going to have to improvise your budget, as well as your time frame. The most important thing is that you really find a project that you love and that you can be dedicated to. This is going to keep you going on the bad days or when you're tired after a difficult day of painting.

Go with what you love. This is also a great way to create a theme room. This doesn't have to be related decorating. This could be a way to create a man cave full of sports teams. It might feature fishing. You might want to go with a vintage style sewing room. This is really where your personality is going to come into play. You'll be able to surround yourself with all the things that you love. Of course you are going to have to bring functional items into the room. This is really where you do have to get in touch with the kind of color palettes and moods that come along with your favorite hobby.

This could mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. A lot of different designers would have totally different takes on a music themed room. One might go in more of a jazz direction with brighter colors and a lot of musical instruments. Someone else might go with more of a classically elegant look with a grand piano and a black and white color scheme. It really just depends on what you want your room to say to the world about the people that live there. This is really the entire essence of a decor style and it's really something that you should keep in mind as you go throughout this process.
