If you have ever conducted an apartment search in a big city like Dallas or Houston you probably were overwhelmed with options you had. Sometimes there are over a dozen apartments in a few miles and it seems as though your going to make the worst decision. Of course you want the best deal for the best price. But there are some key elements which should help you narrow down your search. This will assist you in at least narrowing your selections down to a manageable amount.

Amenities

Some newer apartments today have an unlimited amount of amenities that you can use at your disposal. You will have two different types of amenities (community amenities and apartment amenities). Community amenities including fireplaces, game rooms, fitness centers, and swimming pools. Apartment amenities will include granite counters, stainless steel appliances, soaring ceilings, crown molding, etc.

What is important to you. Most of the apartment communities that were constructed in the last few years will contain all these amenities whether you would like them or not. The older apartment homes that were constructed 7 years ago ore more are less likely to have all of the latest advancements and touches. One of the most requested amenities today include a washer/dryer or non-carpeted flooring. Write down what you must have.

Price

Price always becomes a factor. The older a property is, the cheaper it probably will be everything else being equal. Remember to calculate the price per square foot. Just take the price per month of the rental and divide by the square foot. This will give you an indication of what your really paying. Things like location, age of the property, an on site amenities will cause the price to change.

Location

You may really like the area one of the apartment homes is located in. But it may be too far for work. Also where are the nearest grocery stores and places of entertainment? Do you have to take the bus? This should help you make a better decision about where you intend to live.
