How to Entertain Your Little Guest at a Toddler Birthday Party
As the parent of a toddler you already know the energy and effort it takes to keep your little one on the straight and narrow. At this stage in life they are everywhere and in everything learning and exploring. If you blink too long they’re off and running around just enjoying life. So you probably ask yourself, if entertaining one toddler is this tiring what is it going to be like to manage multiple toddlers all at once? The process is tricky, however not impossible. It is important to have a plan. In an effort to keep their attention you are going to have to be quick with thinking and fast on your feet! Sit down and think about a few structured activities that you like to do with your child and incorporate them into the party. Make sure that in choosing things to do, you don’t go overboard. Having a wide range of things for them to do can hurt more than it can help. You will have to split your attention to more than one area at a time. Here are some ideas that you can try out for a fun filled birthday. After this event is over you are sure to have a whole new respect for your child’s teacher or caretaker.
Red Light Green Light
An oldie but goodie a great game of red light green light never tires. Get your little ones all lined up and let the fun begin. Ask some adults to participate so they can see how the game is supposed to be played. They will enjoy every moment of starting and stopping over and over again.
Duck, Duck, Goose
Another all time favorite is duck, duck, goose. Sit your little ones in a circle and watch the fun begin! They will have a blast chasing their friends around in a circle and it burns up some of that energy.
Follow the Leader
Toddlers like to mimic others anyway so why not make a game of it. Get all of your tiny ones in a line and let them mimic the moves of the leader. Let everyone get a turn to strut their stuff as the leader.
Every kid loves to get their face painted. This is something that does not have to be expensive at all. Get a teenager from the family or the neighborhood to paint simple pictures on their little faces. To avoid fights, choose two different designs one for the boys and one for the girls.
For the bold and daring there is always the choice of having a craft table. The hard part may be getting them all to sit still long enough for you to give out instructions. There are great ideas of crafts that are mess free and fun for all ages!
Food is an important part of the child’s party; the food should be centered on the little ones taste while still being healthy.
Peanut butter and toffee bars
These are always a hit among the kids; you will often find the stray adult dipping into the stash as well. Instead of candy, you can take these favorite flavors into a yearly birthday tradition. While available ready made from several big box or specialty stores you can easily make some at home using fresh baked cookies, peanut butter, toffee bits and chocolate. After you arrange them, pick an elegant or fun package such as colored foil or fun tins.
Cheddar cheese crispers
These are great in both shapes, small and round or long like fingers. Packaged in a reusable glass container or in a seasonal shaped mug, these are sure to be a well received treat for all ages. You can have the snacks resting in places that little hands can reach.
The big cake
Other ideas to really help your finished cake stand out is to add little sprinkles of glittered seasonal cut outs around the edge of the cake on the plate, you can never have too much sparkle at this time of the year. If you are not inclined to make your own specialty cake then there are many professional cake makers that can complete the task for you. These days, it is not just a case of picking a cake off the shelf; you can ask your chosen baker to make a cake to your exact specification. So, if you have the idea for a theme but do not know how to go about creating it then you can use a professional to do all of the hard work for you.
Even the most well behaved children have a hard time sharing. The birthday child will be getting a lot of new toys and other gifts in their birthday, so it is polite to make goodie bags in advance for the small guest. Fill them with small toys and candies to help them remember the fun day they had. If there was a craft table, the items they made can be placed in the bags along with the other items. When the children are leaving the party, they should be presented by the birthday child with a smile. As always remember, with children this age nothing is going to go 100% according to plan. As long as everyone is having fun and no one gets hurt, you can count your party as a successful event to remember.
