You will pretty much live the same way but with more cash in your wallet.
Saving money on the food Coffee and tea
Every morning, the same ritual. You wake up, get ready, go out and enter your favorite coffee shop to get that boost that will get you through the morning. Yes, you’ve guessed it : coffee. That cup of coffee that warms you up and will keep you awake long enough until the next one.
You spend at least 3$ a day on coffee. In a month, it’s about a hundred dollars ! If you buy in a coffee maker, your investment would be done in only a month and you will save thousand of dollars each year on that simple and innocent cup of coffee that you buy everyday.
Obviously, that works for any drinks you buy each day. And this will help you to save money every month. But why stop here ? There is another source of expenses that needs to be covered : the food.
Meals : start cooking
The average cost of a meal that you take out is 8$. Considering that you eat at least twice a day, that is more than a hundred dollars per week. With that much money, if you were cooking yourself, you could feed delicious meals to at least 3 or 4 people a week.
Most people order meals for various reasons :
- they do not have time to cook,
- they do not know how to cook and think it is difficult,
- ordering in is fast and easy.
You don’t have to eat that plate of pasta everyday. Cooking can be quick and easy. But even if you don’t have time to cook, you can always make a big bowl of chili, put it in boxes to store in the freezer until a lazy day. Making a salad only requires to cut and put vegetables in a big bowl and add a dressing on it.
Making coffee and cooking sounds good to your wallet ? In order to improve your savings, you have to be careful on what you buy. Supermarkets are designed to make you buy products that you have not intended to buy. That rack just before the cashier is the best example : filled with expensive junk that you take and put with your groceries.
Here is a list of how to save money on groceries :
- make a list of what you need and stick to it in the store,
- read the store flyer and get the product on sale,
- compare prices in $ per weight,
- find coupons for articles you are going to buy.
Not everything you do outside should be expensive. For example, instead of going to the cinema with your friends, rent a movie. Invite friends over and organize a potluck.
