Winter season is on the go and people are now starting to wear their ugg boots, furry jackets, and cool new looking leggings (women) and jeans (men) when going out. But for those who are always on the run and driving around the streets, there is a big responsibility placed upon you! You need to do a thorough check on your car and perform proper maintenance check and repairs if necessary in order to have your car up and running throughout the winter season. This is to ensure that you and your passengers are safe and out of danger while in the middle of the road in a cold weather.

You should be very aware that when the temperature starts to drop, the car battery will emit less power and the hoses start to become brittle while tires are losing on air pressure and your car's engine oil thickens. The bottom line when its winter season, your car will have to face the challenge out on a wet and snowy road.

Here are few tips that you can get by in order to win over the tough road conditions:

  1. Oil

You should perform an oil change as prescribed by the manual. For those living around the cold regions, it is best if you switch to using winter-grade oil instead. It has lower level of viscosity and starting your car will never be a problem anymore.

  1. Cooling system

It is very important that you start to check the condition, level as well as the concentration of your coolant. This is so in order to prevent engine damage and breakdowns due to overheating or freezing. Also include in your checking the condition and tightness of the clamps, hoses and drive belts.

  1. Battery

Are you one of those few people who can't even remember the last you buy new battery? Then, it's time to check on the lifespan of the battery and if it needs replacement, better get one. Always remember, if you got a weak battery, there is a tendency that your car will breakdown in the middle of a snowy road. If you don't have the budget to buy new one, you can have your battery charge right at a repair shop.

  1. Windshield wipers

Windshield wipers are important parts of the car. Without these, you might have a hard time driving on the road when the snow starts to fall down. Be sure to have those worn-out rubber blades changed. You must carry with windshield-washer solvent as well as quality ice-scraper.

  1. Tires

One of the most dangerous things that you might do is driving on bald tires. It's quite dangerous on your part and you might end up in the middle of an accident and worst hitting another person. Be sure to check on the air pressure of all your tires especially your spare tire.

  1. Other stuff

If you are going to drive whether it's near or far, be sure you tag along winter coat, small shovel, flares, blankets, boots, flashlight, some snacks, cell phone and most importantly water. It might seem you don't need to bring all these stuff, but hey! It's better to be prepared than to be sorry later.
