To Kill a Mocking Bird Summary

How to Kill a Mocking Bird is a well known story written by Harper Lee that is taught in many schools around the world. A lot of individuals are able to connect with the book mainly due to its themes which include racism, prejudice, injustice, rape, poverty, morality, Christianity and the theme of gender. To kill a mocking bird summary gives a short analysis of the characters, main plot, themes, style used and the main events in the story. A look at these crucial factors enables one to come up with the summary. To kill a mocking bird summary sums up the main characters in the story. The characters are Scout, who is the narrator and one of the main characters in the story, her brother Jem, their widower father Atticus who is a lawyer, Dill a friend to both Jem and Scout, Boo Radley who secretly looks out for the three children even though he is a recluse and not seen or heard much, Tom Robinson who is accused of raping a white woman and is defended by Atticus, Calpurnia who is the cook and housekeeper for Atticus and his family, Aunt Alexandra who comes to stay with Atticus and his family during the trial of Tom Robinson, Maudie Atkinson a neighbor and friend to Scout, Mayella Ewell the white woman who falsely accuses Tom Robinson of raping her, Bob Ewell the father to Mayella and who forces her to accuse Tom of raping her.

To kill a mocking bird summary also discusses the setting of the story and its relevance. The story takes place in a small town of Maycomb in Alabama. It takes place during the time of the Great Depression. The narrator and main character Scout tells of the events that shake up the town. Scout, Jem and Dill try to befriend Boo Radley the recluse of the town and he ends up leaving them small gifts as well as watching out for them without their knowledge. The small town is shaken up when Tom Robinson a black man is falsely accused of raping Mayella Ewell a white woman. Atticus a lawyer and father to Scout and Jem defend Tom although he loses the case and Tom is found guilty by the all white jury. Tom is later shot seventeen times while trying to escape prison. Bob Ewell, Mayella's father attacks Atticus and then goes after Scout and Jem but Boo Radley comes to their rescue and Bob Ewell ends up being killed.
