You've landed. You're wired. There it is. A massive, glittering, overload; a place known as Tokyo. It lies watching, waiting and it is always greedy to suck you in and never let you out.

If it's your first time in the largest urban creature around then the above scripture will give you a sense of the emotions that will roll through your every waking moment. You'll be battered, pampered, flabbergasted and exhausted as this vast sprawl of human ingenuity hurls headlong into the future; dragging you –willing or not-- with it. That is, of course, if you know where to go and how to do it. For that to be successful you need what every other hip down-on-the-town Tokyoite knows and breathes. You need a message. One that you give with your every move, stride and line, one that you give by the way you look.

That's right. You need to look good. Cool and groomed. You need to ooze sexy.

Anywhere you find yourself amongst the tall wonder of Tokyo you'll notice how very well dressed this Metropolis's inhabitants are. Be that a top-end coating of chic European glamour or a hip-hop covering of South Central Style, these people, dress. They do it for all the reasons that you might buy a car, or that Condo down the beach, they do it to say, 'This is who I am. This is who you'll meet'. So bottom word? Get with the program and get adorned.

If you haven't come prepped then a good place to start --if you want a genuine 'On the edge of NOW look'-- is Shibuya"s 109 building. Go to shop if you're a teenager, early twenties lady of fashion. Go to drool and wonder if you're male. Leave a trail of bread crumbs to secure a safe exit. You might bump into them on the stairs but there are pale, exhausted men, mere impressions of what they once were, who have wandered in vain to escape the 109 Building for decades. Don't get trapped! This labyrinth of shop and go is undoubtedly any young lady's dreamscape, it can turn into a Samuel Beckett play for the unsuspecting male. Go prepared.

If you're wanting to make an impact on the upscale monitor then a slow shop on Omotesando will see you come away armed with every single fashion house brand you can imagine. Just be sure the finances can take the strain because if you want it, Omotesando will have it.

So go to Tokyo, take it on, but be sure to do it in a way that leaves the locals thinking, 'Now that was a person who knows us'.
