Tooth Pain Relief Tricks That You Can Do at Home

An aching tooth can really become a big hassle, for tooth pain is one of the most uncomfortable pains you can experience in life. You can't eat. You' can't talk. You can't think straight. You are too tired to go to work or school. And the big hassle of this is when you contact your dentist, he or she is not available for immediate consultation. What a nightmare huh?

Do not panic. Fortunately, there are a lot of things that you can do to temporarily subside the pain you are feeling. The routines listed and enumerated below are proven and recommended practices that can ease tooth pain:

  1. Use ice.

    To numb the pain, it is best to put an ice outside the face that covers the painful area. Do this at least three times a day for 15 minutes.

  1. Take pain relievers.

    Quite elementary right? Of course when you feel pain, the most obvious solution is to take pain killer medications like ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Just be careful in following the instructions indicated in the drug's label as well as only take the recommended amount of dosage to avoid overdosing.

  1. Brush your teeth regularly.

    There are instances when tooth pain is just a minor case of sensitivity that does not necessarily require you to go and see your doctor. Food can lodged in-between your teeth, thus, irritating the gum lines causing discomfort. With this, what you need to do to get rid of the pain is to thoroughly clean your mouth and teeth. Brush your teeth well and floss regularly.

  1. Chew on the other side.

    When your tooth hurts, better chew on the side that does not hurt. This way, you can avoid additional injury to your hurting tooth if you leave it alone.

  1. Use tooth desensitizers.

    To ease tooth pain, another recommended trick is to use an over-the-counter tooth desensitizer. Most of such product require you to apply to the sensitive areas of the tooth. Majority of tooth desensitizer products can last for weeks with just one application, while there are other brands that require continuous application.

  1. Make use of a ground garlic clove or garlic clove oil.

    One of the most effective ways to ease tooth pain is to apply ground garlic clove or pure food grade garlic clove oil on the affected tooth. Many people who make use of this method claimed that it is a better pain reliever than Vicodin.

  1. Dab the infected tooth with alcohol or whiskey.

    Another simple tooth pain relief is to dab a cotton bud with an alcohol or whiskey and apply it to the painful area of the tooth until the pain subsides.

  1. Use oregano flakes.
Place oregano flakes on the painful tooth to ease the pain. You would be able to feel no pain for days when you try to gargle mixed salt and oregano flakes in a warm water.
