Top 10 Home Water Filtration Systems

By Edited Oct 11, 2015 0 0

Everyone is going Green. Everyone is trying to reduce their carbon footprint. One way to do that is to reduce waste. Everyone drinks bottled water these days. How many bottles do you throw away a year? Wouldn't it be better (and cheaper) to filter your own water, fill a NALGENE bottle, and carry it with you? Wouldn't you feel better about yourself?

In addition to the environmental and financial benefits of filtering your own water at home, we must look at the possible health benefits. In recent years, the safety of our tap water has been called into question. In the industrial world nearly all water is contaminated in some way and must be purified and filtered in order to be potable. Our water sources have been contaminated by POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) from manufacturing, Nitrates from fertilizers used in farms, as well any number of other sundry contaminants such as fecal matter and iron.

Surely the government filters out these things before the water comes out of your tap. Right? Not necessarily. The municipal works in most major metropolitan (and rural) areas are grossly overworked and underfunded. They were never designed to handle the amount of the water that they are currently required to process. They are old and sometimes outdated. It is estimated that the US Government will spend over a trillion dollars over the next twenty years in order to upgrade or replace current water systems.

Then there's the fluoride. Fluoride was initially put into the drinking water to help prevent enamel from softening and to help it reharden. People have recently brought up concerns about the health risks fluoride poses as well as its necessity. Most people brush with fluoride toothpaste and do not need the "extra" fluoride in tap water.

Regardless of what your concerns are, a home water filtration system is a good investment. Below we will examine the top ten selling systems in the United States in detail:
