Top 2 Factors that increases Risk of Car Accident in Southern California

By Edited May 7, 2015 0 1

Some of the top car accident attorneys in the United States are in Southern California.

That is not really surprising with two of the most populated and urbanized cities (San Diego and Los Angeles), not only in California but also in the United States, is located in the region.

But what is the relationship of these properties to the high number of car accidents in the region.

  • Population

If you are not aware, there is a strong relationship between the high occurrences of vehicle accidents, with the high population of the area.

You can see it on the number of deaths related to vehicular accidents in Los Angeles and Sad Diego.

In a year, there are more than 200 deaths in LA and more than 100 deaths in San Diego while a smaller city like Fontana gets only about 10-15 deaths annually.

Even car insurance companies recognize that fact and make it a factor in determining insurance premiums.

If you will notice, people in highly populated areas are more likely to have higher car accident insurance rates compared to cities with a smaller population.

The main cause is that the area's populations are also proportionate to the number of cars running on its roads.

More cars simply mean more car accidents.

  • Urbanized

Another factor that makes Southern California much more dangerous to motorists is its highly urban setting.

And it is no question that Southern California is a mega-region.

It has the world's third busiest airport based on passenger volume in the Los Angeles International Airport.

It is also home to some of the most prestigious and world renowned research and academic institutions in the world like University of California LA, Claremont Colleges and University of San Diego among others.

And of course, Hollywood!!!

Southern California is the entertainment capital of the world and home of major studios like Sony, MGM, Paramount, 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros.

So what does this got to do with car accidents? …Plenty.

Urban areas always suffer from overpopulation problems just by virtue of attracting more people because of the various opportunities it present.

And as said above, the more people there is, the more car accidents there are.

Another reason why highly urbanized areas have more car accidents is that there are more roads that are designed for high speed like freeways and highways.

Combine the high number of cars and motorists with the number of high speed road and you significantly increase the risk of vehicular accident.
