Do-it-yourself projects are becoming more and more popular with video and written tutorials to do just about everything! The following are three of the best home projects you can do:
- During the 60’s and 70’s putting down carpet in your home was the popular thing to do. Many people who live in older homes may be excited to find out that underneath their carpet they have a beautiful hardwood floor just waiting to be uncovered. To check, take a pair of pliers and carefully peel away some of the carpet in an inconspicuous place and take a look. If indeed you have hardwood floor under there, you may be able to re-finish it and give your home an entirely updated look. Installing carpet usually requires quite a bit of staples, nails or adhesive, so when peeling off the carpet be sure to remove all these things. Once all of the carpet is removed, you can then sand the wood floor down and apply a finish, light or dark, depending on what color you’d like your wood.
- Another great way to completely transform a room is to paint it. Paint is an expensive way to take a room from drab to fab in a couple days’ time. If you choose to paint a room yourself, be sure to take the extra time to do a precise job of taping off the ceiling, base boards, chair rails, etc. in order to give it that professionally painted appearance. Don’t skip the primer and take your time. Take a look online for room inspiration from design magazines, mood boards, etc. in order to choose a color scheme that you’ll be happy with.
- Update your fixtures. This is an easy way to give any room an updated appearance simply by purchasing new fixtures. For the kitchen consider a new faucet, drawer pulls and cupboard handles. For the bedrooms, consider new door knobs and light fixtures. For the bathroom, you might buy a new shower head, faucet, cupboard knobs, light fixtures, etc. You’ll be surprised at how quickly such a little change can update a home instantly.
So, whether you’re hoping to just spruce up your house for your own liking or to increase the value for an upcoming home appraisal ct, do-it-yourself projects are an awesome solution and can be fun as well!
