Top 5 Disney World To Do's for First Timers Part Two: Epcot

Epcot

Educational and Fun

Epcot

Finally you are at Disney and spent a fun filled day walking the streets of Magic Kingdom; perusing the shops, taking in the sites and just having fun.  Hopefully the first day of your first Disney vacation was so awesome your kids fell asleep on the way back to the resort with Disney dreams.  The following day is going to be spent at Epcot.  Epcot is an interesting park in that it feels “quiet.”  It feels more cerebral then the other parks; the park sets out to teach more then other parks do.  It has a Magic School Bus feel; it is educational, fun and whacky all at the same time.   Experience many different cultures with varying rides that explore those cultures and food from a lot of different cultures.  Don’t worry there are plenty of adventures waiting for the little ones too, that’s why I wrote the Top 5 articles.  Enjoy the Magic Kingdom Top 5 article I wrote.

1. Journey Into Imagination With Figment

What a whacky imagination filled ride this is.  This is a perfect for young children who are learning about the 5 senses.  Travel though the Frigment’s house where the up becomes down and the down becomes up.  Children will learn about sounds, smell, sight, taste, and touch on this adventure.

2. Spaceship Earth

Disney is really good at mixing educational with fun.  Located in the iconic geosphere Spaceship Earth takes a look at how communication has evolved of the course of time.  Travel back to see where our recorded history started.  Travel from cave paintings to the Renaissance and beyond to where communication is going. This 16-minute ride is a good one during the middle of the day when everyone is getting tired of walking.  At the end of the ride are some computers where you can answer a few questions and see what your future is going to be like.

Be careful with little one’s on this ride.  The carts don’t stop moving in order to get on or off.  They aren’t moving fast and they are easy to load into and unload out of.

3. Soarin

Soarin is another one of my favorite rides in all the Disney parks.  Travel the coast of California with this 180-degree Imax flight simulator.  Sitting 40 feet up in the air while your chair moves as you move provokes a very real sensation of flying.  This coupled with Disney’s ability to touch all of your senses makes this a must when in Epcot.

Because people are suspend 40 feet in the air in rollercoaster like seats children need to be a certain height in order to ride this.  My wife and I pass our son of to grandma for this ride.  When there is no grandma available resulting to rock-paper-scissors is always a viable option.

I would recommend getting a Fast Pass for this ride.  The line is usually averages 2 hours long.  So instead of waiting to ride get a Fast Pass and come back during your designated time to get right on the ride.

4. The Seas with Nemo and Friends

Travel under the sea and follow Nemo, Dorey and friends on their adventure to find the missing clown fish.  If you’re little one’s loved Disney’s Finding Nemo, and who didn’t, will certainly love this ride.  Actually both parents and children will enjoy sitting in the clamobile traveling the current, seeing Bruce the shark and swimming with Mr. Ray.

5. Meet Disney Pals at the Epcot Character Spot

If you weren’t able to meet Mickey in Magic Kingdom don’t worry because he is at Epcot with some of his friends; head on over to the character spot to meet Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald and Goofy.  If time is crucial then you instead of meeting Mickey Mouse at Magic Kingdom you can meet the whole crew here instead.  Make sure you have your picture taken to remember your first Disney vacation.

Since all five of the main character are here and people are meeting them all in one shot the lines get long.  Getting a Fast Pass is recommended for this character meet.  It will save time and allow you to have time for the other rides on this top 5 list.

Food and Extra To Do's

Epcot has a ton of different food options. Disney created Epcot so that guests could experience quite a few different cultures in one place.  Food elegantly describes and reflects one's culture and is one of the best ways to experience different cultures.  Because of this Epcot has a variety of food and different ways to obtain the yum yums.  From the sit down restaurant to the booth you can experience a variety of food from all over the World. Having a Park Hopper Pass would allow you to leave any other park and head over to Epcot for meals.  This might not be a bad idea seeing that Epcot has the best and most diverse food out of any of the other parks.

Enjoy your day at Epcot visiting different cultures, learning while having fun and eating the amazing food.  The next article is going to be about Hollywood Studios and all the fun you can have there.
