Good London Sushi, Ramen, Katsu, Okonomiyaki,
Perhaps you are travelling in London or you live there and are looking for some good Japanese food. Perhaps you have had Japanese food in London but your experience so far hasn't been as good as you hoped for. London is home to one of the largest Japanese communities in Europe as well as a ever-growing number of non-Japanese food lovers. As a result there are many good and bad restaurants that offer Japanese food. Here are my top 5 Japanese food joints in the English Capital. They are also very close by as you can see from the map below
5. Yoshino for Sushi
First on my countdown of top restaurants is 'Restaurant Yoshino,' a long time favourite for Sushi lovers who don't want to blow a small fortune in the process (you can do that here too if you come for dinner, but the Lunch prices are good). Clean, good service and a variety of Japanese dishes to suit any palette are available
Yoshino can be found at: 3 Piccadilly Place London W1J 0DB

4. Abento for Okonomiyaki
Looking for some good Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pancake)? Abento near Leicester Square (or its relative Abeno next to the British Museum) is the perfect place to satisfy that hole in your stomach after a long day in central London. The staff will make your okonomiyaki on the grill at your table which is always loads of fun to watch. Be sure to check the menu for seasonal specials and the hotcake desserts if they have them. Much like Yoshino above, you can make some great savings made if you go at Lunchtime.
Abeno can be found at: 47 Museum Street, London, WC1A 1LY
Tel:+44(0)20 7405 3211
Abento can be found at: 17-19 Great Newport Street, London, WC2H 7JE

3. Ten Ten Tei for Katsu
A small family run place, TenTen Tei is arguably one of the quieter Japanese restaurants in the Soho area, just up from Piccadilly Circus. While it lacks the design finesse of its more upmarket rivals and would look more suitable as a neighbourhood restaurant in the Tokyo suburbs, Ten Ten Tei makes up for it with food quality. Whether it is Eel Don, Tonkatsu or just a regular Japanese Curry, this place cooks these comfort dishes better than the rest of them.
Ten Ten Tei can be found at: 56 Brewer Street, Soho, London, W1F 9TJ

2. Taro for Ramen
Taro is a recently opened Japanese restaurant in the Soho area not too far from Ten Ten Tei mentioned above. Although it does many Japanese dishes really well, the ramen is probably the best I've had in London and they serve it quickly! Like Ten Ten Tei, it is more of an eat and go but it is cheaper than some of the other places in the area.
Taro can be found at: 61 Brewer Street, London, W2

1. Mitsukoshi Department Store Restaurant
Those who have been to Japan will probably be familiar with the Department Store Chain and their London branch has a restaurant in the basement as you enter through the entrance. Although definitely not the cheapest Japanese restaurant it is by no means the most expensive. Also, this place has the best ambience out of all the places, so if you want to impress someone, take them here. If you need any further proof just look at the number of Japanese eating and drinking there with their families. It also has the widest variety of Japanese food available whether it is takoyaki (fried octopus balls), sukiyaki (hotpot) or teriyaki chicken. That's before we talk about the Sake they have available at the bar.
Tip: If you go and order dinner before 7PM you can get an early bird discount as well as get a complementary glass of wine or beer.
Mitsukoshi Restaurant can be found at: Dorland House 14-16 Regent Street, London, SW1Y 4PH

I hope this list helps you find something good to eat!
