Top 5 New Word Puzzle Games for the iPhone

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 1 0

New word puzzle games for the iPhone are making their way onto the market every day.  It can be hard to sift through all of them to find the best game apps that you want to spend your money and time playing.  It is ideal to be able to find games that are challenging but are not so difficult that you can never win or even be able to find any enjoyment.  That is where these games come in.  You can spend some of your free time with fun word games, play for a few minutes, and then put the phone away to go about the rest of your day feeling like you got your money's worth with a word game app.

New game apps fly at your fast and furious in the Apple Store.  To make things a little simpler, here are some of the top word puzzle games available today.

Letter Frenzy

has a simple concept but is much more difficult than first meets the eye.  The game starts with 5 columns of letters.  Each letter is in the correct column.  It is up to the player to determine which row each letter belongs in.

The goal is to align the letters in such a way that 5 distinct words are formed.  But beware, just because you discover a word does not mean it is the correct word.

The game gives you 3 minutes to discover the precise words.  It also only gives you 50 letter swaps before your turn is through.

Letter Frenzy can be played with Game Center so you can keep track of how you stack up to other players.  It is an iPhone puzzle game that does not take long to play.  In a matter of 10 minutes you can have 3 or 4 games completed.  Some games are easier than others, but they are all a challenge.

In my mind, Letter Frenzy is the best new iPhone game in the Word and Puzzle categories.

Type Racer

Remember typing class in junior high and high school?  One of the new iPhone apps available is called Type Racer, and it allows you to test your iPhone typing skills.  The concept is very simple.  When you begin to play a page is displayed with a list of words.  As a timer counts down, your job is to type in the words as fast as you can.  The bad thing is that Autocorrect is not there to help you out.  If you mess up, you have to start on the next word.

When you are looking for fun apps for iPhone and iPad you want games that are quick and simple to figure out.  Type Racer has that as well as an ability to compete with yourself.  The game keeps track of the number of words you get right and wrong.

Wrackle

Wrackle is a word game app that has its roots in the old fashioned word search that you did as a kid, and now you do on the kid's menu at Chili's.  But there is more to it than that.  You are given a board of letters and your job is to find words up, down, left, and right.  When you find a correct word, those letters are removed and new letters take their places.

There are two ways to play Wrackle.  You can play what's called a "Dash" where you try to find as many words as possible in one minute.  Another way to play is called "Survival."  Survival mode gives you more time whenever you find a word.

Wrackle has many different boards to get through, and you can play against another person.  There are also daily challenges to make things even more interesting.  As far as new game apps go, this is a good one.

Crostix

The basic definition of an acrostic is a series of lines or verses in which the first, last, or other particular letters when taken in order spell out a word, phrase, etc.[4200]  This concept is used to power the iPhone puzzle app Crostix.  There are 150 puzzles in a variety of skill levels, and you have the option of purchasing more puzzles from inside the app.

A nice feature of the game is the ability to just type in the word you want and the letters will automatically be inserted into the correct place on the screen.

The full version of Crostix is a paid app, but you can try out the Lite version of this word game app for free.

Word Chance

Word Chance is a word puzzle app that is part Scrabble (or Words with Friends, I suppose, since we are talking best game apps for the iPhone) and part 5-card draw.  What can be better than gambling and learning?  Anything?

Word Chance gives you seven letter tiles, with each tile representing a different point total.  The highest point word is shown to you, but that's when the fun begins.  You are then given the option to hold 0 to 7 tiles and have new ones given to you.  Once your choice is made, you receive points based on the highest point total of your new tiles.

Bonus points are awarded for long words and high point totals.  After each turn you are given the chance to select the correct definition for the winning word.

This game is good whether you just want to play a fun word game app or even if English is your second language.  It is probably a good game for kids too.  All in all, Word Chance is another of a series of fun word games along with the others listed here.

Word Puzzle Games for iPhone Are Fun and Educational

Word puzzle apps are a great way to spend time when you are stuck watching a boring tv show, when you are having your oil changed, or for any other instance where you need to waste some time.

They are also good if you are trying to exercise your brain, expand your vocabulary, or gain a better understanding of the English language.

There are lots of good, fun word games, and these new word puzzle games make great additions to the selection of the game apps for your iPhone.
