What most people are hoping to achieve in the new year
New years is an exciting time for most people. It's a time when we consider what we want to change in our life, set goals and envision what we can accomplish in the coming year. A trip to any gym on January 2nd will show just how many people make new years resolutions for themselves.
Unfortunately, a trip to the same gym on March 2nd will show you that at least some of those people have lost their motivation. There are tons of reasons for this. The busyness of life crowds out your goals, finances are not what you thought they would be or any number of other reasons. I want to help you succeed.
Here are the top 5 New Years resolutions and some tips to help you succeed
This can take a number of forms, call it what you like. You may want to lose weight, work on your six-pack abs, run a 10k, do 50 pushups...whatever. Almost everybody on earth wants to do more with their fitness in the coming year than they did the year before. Gym membership sign-ups go crazy in January, running shoes fly off the shelves and athletic gear does the same.
Nobody likes being in debt, and this one definitely deserves a place on the top 5 new years resolutions. Credit cards, car loans, student loans and mortgages become enemy number one one January first. Paying off debt can help you achieve your fitness goals as well because excessive debt can be tied to stress and other health problems. For many, this is the year to set financial stress aside and start living within their means.
3. Stop Smoking
Despite coming from a family with many smokers, it amazes me that this is such a popular new years resolution. Why? It just seems so simple. Put down the cigarettes, don't buy more, repeat. Of course if you've ever been a smoker you know that it's not quite that simple. There are more remedies available now than ever before to help you break this stinky habit.
Most people like to travel. It can be hard to find the time, money and motivation to travel and that's why it makes it onto so many New Years resolution lists. Due the cost and complexity of travel, especially for those who are not used to it, this one probably gets forgotten sooner than most.
5. Learn to ______
Who doesn't want to learn a new skill? Maybe it's learning to speak Spanish, karate, fly an airplane or juggle. We all have something that we want to know how to do. There are few things more satisfying than learning a new skill that you have always wanted to. Set up a plan for learning your new skill right away so that it doesn't get pushed to the bottom of your priority list. Stick with it, and you will get there!
So there they are, the top 5 New Years resolutions. I suggest to everybody that you set your goals big. Even though the term "New Years resolution" seems to be tied to regret and lost dreams for many, you can do the things you want to. Set your goals big and work at them step-by-step and you will get there.
