Top 5 Restaurants to take Small Children in Chicago

As any parent with small children or toddlers is aware, dining out is can be one of the most challenging experiences.  Having to sit still and eat over a long period of time is a challenge for anyone under the age of five.

Whether you are a tourist or a native, Chicago does have a number of family friendly restaurants for those with small children.  Here are the top five I have found in Chicago that will keep both parents and children happy.

5. Rainforest Café
605 N. Clark Street
Chicago, IL 60654
(312) 787-1501

I tried to avoid national chains for this list, but Rainforest Café is worth it.  Located on the near North Side of the city, this jungle themed restaurant has everything to keep the kids entertained.  From animatronics animals to an extensive kids menu there won’t be a boring moment for the little ones.

4. Pompei
Multiple locations

If you are looking for good Italian food at an affordable price, then any of the Pompei city locations will please you.  The unpretentious atmosphere provides a comfortable setting for anyone with kids that like to make a ruckus.  At some locations you can watch as they make the pasta from scratch, which children always find entertaining.

3. Nohea Café
142 W Roscoe
Chicago, IL 60618
(773) 935-7448

A newcomer to the Chicago restaurant scene, Nohea is a mother-daughter run café with a European feel.  While almost any restaurant in the Roscoe Village neighborhood is in the family friendly category, Nohea stands out for its “toddler table” that includes a small dollhouse, a globe, and several other toys.  Their sandwiches are also outstanding, with the “Smokin’ Turkey” being my personal favorite.  Please note the hours before going, as they close early and are not open on Sundays.

2. Little Beans Café

1809 W Webster
Chicago, IL 60614
(773) 251-1025

Part café part 6,000 square foot play center, Little Beans has it all.    The play area is modeled after a small, including a school house, fire station, auto repair shop, and grocery store.  They also have musical entertainment and scheduled classes.  If the parents need a break from supervising the kids, babysitting service is also available.

1. D'Agostino's Pizza and Pub

1351 W. Addison
Chicago, IL 60657
Phone: (773) 477-1822

How does a restaurant in Wriglyville make the number one restaurant list for families with small children?  Combine great pizza and model train that circles around the dining area and you have a child’s delight.  To top it off every Tuesday and Thursday night, balloon twister extraordinaire “Smarty Pants” is there to entertain kids with balloons shaped into every imaginable shape and figure.
