We see a lot of cool concept cars released each year for the car shows, but all of the cars on this list are available for sale and are true production cars. Some of these cars may be a very limited production, but if you can afford the high price tag then you will be the envy of all the guys in your neighborhood who are going through a midlife crisis. This list could have easily been filled up simply with super cars that are extremely fast and expensive. This list does include some expensive super cars, but there are also some very affordable vehicles that would be great to be used as a daily driver. A car does not have to have a quick 0-60 acceleration in order to make it cool. A cool car could simply be a car that does not need to use fuel. Here are the top 7 coolest production cars of 2012.
7. Corvette ZR1
As always there are numerous models of Corvettes available. The fastest and most expensive one for 2012 is the Corvette Zr1. Pricing on this bad boy starts at $111,600 and goes up from there. The ZR1 comes with 638 horsepower and can go 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. Chevy says this car can go up to 205 MPH. $100,000 can buy a house in many areas; however people will see you more in your car than your house. If you want to be seen in one of the coolest cars of 2012 then the Corvette ZR1 is a great way to go. There have been countless Corvette models manufactured over the years but none of them come close to the stock production power of the ZR1.
6. Dodge Challenger
The original Dodge Challenger is one of the greatest Muscle Cars ever. Dodge brought the Challenger back and the new Challenger is truly an awesome car. The 2012 Challenger is a direct throwback to the styling and performance of the 70’s Challenger; however it also comes with all new modern performance and looks. You can see the DNA of the original Challenger in the new one.
The 2012 Challenger lineup consist of numerous models. The base model is a very affordable $25,000. You can also spend upwards of over $46,000 and get one of the fastest ones. If you want a HEMI motor in your Challenger you will have to spend at least $30,000. The combination of awesome styling and great performance make the 2012 Dodge Challenger one of the 10 coolest production cars of 2012.
Dodge has also come out with the Dodge Charger and the Dodge Dart. The Charger is a great car, but is not near as cool looking as the Challenger. The Dodge Dart is nothing like the original Dodge Dart. Although these are both pretty neat cars, the Challenger is the single car from Dodge that definitely deserves to be listed as one of the 7 coolest production cars of 2012.
5. Lamborghini Aventador
This is the car that replaces the Lamborghini Murcielago as the flagship model from Lamborghini. The Lamborghini Aventador has a V12 engine that pulls 690 Horsepower. The engine is mounted on an extremely lightweight frame which makes this Lamborghini capable of reaching speeds of over 200 MPH and going 0-60 in about 2.8 seconds. The $379,700 starting price tag for the Lamborghini Aventador make some of the other cars on this list seem like an absolute bargain.
4. Bentley Continental GT V8
Historically Bentley has made some of the best looking cars ever. Many of their old models still have sweet looks even when compared to newer models of cars. A Bentley is like a good bottle of wine; the longer you let it age the better it looks. The Bentley Continental GT looks awesome and the performance is superb.
3. Ferrari FF
The Ferrari FF feature a V12 Engine that pulls 651 HP. The car has an almost station wagon like appearance, yet it super fast. The front looks similar to a Dodge Viper and then it molds into a wagon form. Whether you like the body style or not there is no disputing that this is a truly powerful car.
2. Nissan Leaf
The Nissan Leaf is the cheapest car on this list and is also the most limited. The car is limited to a range of about 70 MPH. What this car is though is the future. Although you are limited to a modest 70MPH range between electrical charges, you are freed from paying for gas. You can commute back and forth to work and drive around town running errands without ever having to pay for fuel. The Nissan Leaf represents the future of our automotive industry. In the future we will have full electric cars similar to the Leaf which will have a lot longer range between charges, but for now we can relish in the pure joy of not having to pay for fuel. The only time you will have to stop at the Gas Station is to buy a Coke and hotdog.
1. BMW Active Hybrid 750Li
This is the crown jewel of hybrid cars. The BMW Active Hybrid 750Li sports a V-8 Engine that pulls 455 horsepower. The cool thing is that this car still gets around 17-25 MPG. You have a truly fast sports car/luxury car/hybrid car. This is the car of all cars for 2012. Unfortunately it does not get near as much attention as other green cars do such as the Nissan Leaf and the Toyota Prius. The main reason this BMW Hybrid may not get as much attention might have to do with the high price tag. This car starts out at $101,000! This car is not a perfect luxury car; however it does come close to perfection. How can you go wrong with a super fast hybrid luxury car that still manages to pull some pretty decent MPG?
