3 of the Best Spiritual Books for Getting Started

Here's a short list of some top books to read on your spiritual journey.  With all of the reading choices today, it can be overwhelming and difficult to decide where to start.  When it comes to reading spiritual books, there's probably no wrong place to begin, but it helps to choose books that are clearly written and can serve as a foundation as you continue along your path. Each of these books can be read and re-read over time, offering new insights as your own awareness develops and you see things more deeply.

"The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success" by Deepak Chopra is in my list of all time favorite books.  Don't let the name fool you; it's not a materialistic book at all.  In this book, success means fulfillment in all areas of life: relationships, family, health, personal growth, and abundance.  These seven spiritual laws govern all areas of our lives.  Instead of struggling to achieve what we want in our lives, we can learn to be in harmony with these natural laws. Applying these principles puts us in tune with the flow of the universe and all living things.

This was one of the first books I read on my spiritual journey.  I remember having a lot of Aha! moments as things finally seemed to make sense and the events in my life formed a cohesive picture.  I especially love the audio version of the seven spiritual laws of success.  It's recorded in Deepak's own voice, back when he was much younger.  He is so passionate and inspiring in this book.  I used to listen to it in the car while stuck in traffic.  It always kept me in a good mood and spiritually focused.  This book is short, simple and yet profound.  As time passes, I keep coming back to it and I'm never disappointed.

"The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz - These four agreements, coming from the Toltec wisdom tradition are so useful.  Don Miguel Ruiz is a wonderful storyteller, and he writes both clearly and poetically.  I love the simplicity of the four agreements - I can easily remember them in my head, which makes it much more likely that I'll put them into practice.  That's not to say that it's easy to live by this code.  It's so helpful though to have a clear system to live by that brings peace and clarity to your life.

"The Seat of the Soul" by Gary Zukav -  This book explains about how to make the shift from an external sense of power, which is never fully within our control, and authentic power, which comes from within.  Zukav shares how spiritual psychology, aligning our personalities with our soul, is the key to our personal fulfillment and spiritual growth.  Although it's just a bit more complex than the other two, this book is highly rewarding and helpful to you on your path.  It will transform the way you experience the world.

Just remember, reading the books is simply the first step of the journey.  It's great to understand the principles, but the real growth comes from applying them to your life!
