The NBA draft is always a fun event to watch, because most of the time the players selected high up make an immediate impact on their team. The top ten 2012 draft results are some of the most anticipated results since the 2003 draft. This year is viewed as being as deep in player talent as 2003 that brought us key players as LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade and Carmelo Anthony to name a few.

# 1 New Orleans Hornets

Anthony Davis, Kentucky

  • 2011-2012 stats: 14.3 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 0.9 APG, 4.7 BPG
  • Position: PF
  • Height: 6'10"
  • Weight: 220 lbs

Anthony Davis has been extremely impressive in his freshman year at Kentucky. His play and physical attributes turned heads with NBA scouts showing that whether he is scoring or not he will impact the game around him. He has the natural skills to compete in the NBA with other superstars. His 7’4” wingspan will make it hard for any NBA team to get around him without their shot being contested. Anthon Davis was so dominate during his only year at Kentucky, that he earned the 2012 National Player of the Year along with a national championship. He will be a nice fit in this system that needs a dominant big man.

Michael Kidd-Gilchirst, Kentucky

  • 2011-2012 stats: 11.8 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 2.0 APG
  • Position: SF
  • Height: 6'7"
  • Weight: 232 lbs

Kid-Gilchrist is a dominant force in his own. While being somewhat in Anthony Davis’ shadow, he has emerged as a solid player. He plays the wing very efficiently from last years stats with Kentucky. He is a great pick up and the Bobcats will be very happy with the production and wins that he will bring them.

Bradley Beal, Florida

  • 2011-2012 stats: 14.6 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 2.2 APG
  • Position: SG
  • Height: 6'3"
  • Weight: 207 lbs

Bradley Beal has made the most splash as of late with his pure shooters stroke. Not only does he have the athleticism to back up his numbers from Florida, but he likes to play physical as well. Just look at his rebounds per game at 6.5. You usually don’t see this from a 2 guard, but Beal is showing that he is more than a one trick pony. Expect him to make an immediate impact with John Wall and the Washington Wizards.

# 4 Cleveland Cavaliers

Dion Waiters, Syracuse

  • 2011-2012 stats: 12.6 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 2.6 APG
  • Position: SG
  • Height: 6'4"
  • Weight: 215 lbs

Waiters was Jim Boeheim’s sixth man coming off the bench this year at Syracuse, but don’t let this fool you. When he was in the game, he lit up defenders with his explosives abilities taking it to the rim and scoring effectively. With some proper coaching Waiters could become a premium player for the Cavs.

Thomas Robinson, Kansas

  • 2011-2012 stats: 17.9 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 1.9 APG
  • Position: PF
  • Height: 6'10"
  • Weight: 237 lbs

Robinson was extremely productive this past season for Kansas averaging 17.9 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists a game. With his size, strength and quickness he should develop into a force to reckon with. These attributes will allow him to use his body while scoring or defending in the paint with ease. Look for him to flourish in his role with the Kings.

# 6 Portland Trail Blazers (from New Jersey)

Damian Lillard, Weber State

  • 2011-2012 stats: 24.5 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 4.0 APG
  • Position: PG
  • Height: 6'3"
  • Weight: 195 lbs

Damian Lillard is coming out of Weber State and while playing for a little smaller of a school, he was still able to accumulate solid stats with 24.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4 assists per game. Being a point guard in the NBA will require him to boost the average assists per game, but overall a very solid pick. He knows how to call a game and direct the players on the floor so that they will be in the right positions to succeed.

# 7 Golden State Warriors

Harrison Barnes, North Carolina

  • 2011-2012 stats: 17.4 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.0 APG
  • Position: SF
  • Height: 6'8"
  • Weight: 215 lbs

Barnes elected to stay in college for 1 more year and his numbers dropped a little bit, but he still put up solid performances averaging 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1 assist per game. He is a flashy player that can score almost at will and his size will help with his play. He will need to put on a little more muscle to help with his post game in the NBA.

# 8 Toronto Raptors

Terrence Ross, Washington

  • 2011-2012 stats: 16.4 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 1.4 APG
  • Position: SG
  • Height: 6'6"
  • Weight: 195 lbs

Terrence Ross is great at finding the lane and getting to the basket. He is brought into Toronto for just that. His athleticism is among the top in this draft class and look for him to score and score often. From his stats of 16.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Andre Drummond, Connecticut

  • 2011-2012 stats: 10.2 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 2.7 BPG
  • Position: C
  • Height: 6'10"
  • Weight: 270 lbs

Andre Drummond is a work in progress. He isn’t a scoring machine, but will help you with rebounding and some blocks per game. This will make the other team have to adjust to his style of play. He will need some work, so don’t expect to see a lot of explosiveness out of Andre Drummond until the 2nd or 3rd year of play as long as he can stay healthy.

Austin Rivers, Duke

  • Position: PG/SG

Austin Rivers is very explosive and crafty when driving to the rim. He has proven with his play at Duke that he can step up to the big pressure situations and hit his shots. The great thing about Rivers, is that he has skills but demands more out of himself. This is a fantastic attribute, as he will always be driving himself to be the best at his position. Not to mention teaming up with Anthony Davis, expect to see these two grow togther as a great 1-2 punch.
