Predator (1987)

The 1987 film Predator is one of the United States most iconic action films to date. This film blends elements of Science Fiction with action. The Film begins with a team of American Commandos being sent to Latin America on a top secret misison. The film stars Arnold Schwarzeneggar who definately takes the lead in this film. The film began the Predator franchise which has crossed universes with the Alien franchise in AVP 1 and AVP 2. In 2010, a sequel Predators was released which added a further layer to the mythos surronded the franchise. The sequel also helped to revive interest in the franchise which has lost steam since the abysmal failures of AVP 1 and AVP 2. 10/10

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

This 1998 film by Stephen Speilburg helped revive American interest in World War II. The film portrays a group of humble American Soldiers as they attempt to rescue a paratrooper, Private Ryan, Ryan is of great significance because two of his brothers died at D-Day and the top American Brass wants to save the last brother. Top Hanks plays the humble American captain who searches the norman countryside for the last brother. Since this film helped revive American interest in the war and spunned numerous video games such as Medal of Honor and Call of Duty I rate this movie as excellent 9.75/10

Air Force One (1997)

Director Wolfgang Peterson's Air Force One is an excellent film for the following reasons. One of the biggest concern's of U.S. policy makers, following the collapse of the USSR was what would become of the 15 Socialist Republics. This film has the President (Harrison Ford) kidnapped by a communist revolutionary (Gary Oldman) his entire family is held hostage, and the President has to get his plane back! I rate this movie 9/10 for displaying the political worries of the 1990s.

Das Boat (1981)

Das Boat is another Wolfgang Peterson film. This film portrays a group of U-boat submariners on a mission during the WWII battle of the Atlantic. Instead of portraying the Germans as badguys, Peterson portrays them as regular german soldiers trying to cope with the hardship of war on a submarine. The film shows how the isolation and hysteria that can take place on a small submarine. This coupled with a few excellent naval battles, makes the film one of my favorite war movies. 9/10

Enemy at the Gates (2001)

The 2001 film Enemy at the Gates is an excellent potrayal of the Battle of Stalingrad. The film shows the desperation on the part of the CCCP authorities during the opening days of the battle, and the hope they place in a young sniper from the Ural Mountains. Jude Law does a fantastic job in this film by playing a Russian soldier. I rate this movie 8/10

Point Break (1991)

Point Break is a 1991 film that is about the FBI's hunt for a group of Bank Robbers known as the ex-Presidents. The film however, is more than it seems. These robbers only rob during the surf season. The film is excellent in terms of it's plot and character development. 8.5/10

Red Dawn (1984)

Red Dawn is a 1984 film that was made during the beginning of Ronald Reagan's first term of President. During this period there was a great fear that Nicaragua would turn communist, and coupled with Cuba would launch a Latin American invasion of the U.S. this film was made to help convince the American public of a growing Latin American communist threat. The film shows a group of partisan teenagers as they attempt to regain their hometown and drive the communists out. 9/10

Iron Man (2008)

Iron Man is one of my favorite action movies of the 21st century. The film opens with the capture of Tony Stark by Afghan terrorists. He makes the first Iron Man suit to defeat these terrorists and escape confinement. It shows the growing fear of arms proliferation and the threat of terrorism to the U.S. the best films are the ones that reflect cultural/political/economic worries; this film does a good job at reflecting many of these aspects. While, the sequel Iron Man 2 is sub-par compared to the first, it is still a good movie. 8/10

Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2

Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol 2. are good action films by Quentien Tarantino. These films portray the efforts of the "Bride" as she attempts to kill Bill for murdering her friends and husband-to-be at their wedding rehersal. The film has an excellent score and direction. Over the course of both movies the main characters are developed upon and at the end of Vol. 2 you kind of want Bill to live. There are lots of twists and turns along the way, so be prepared for this one. 10/10

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

No action film list would be complete without one of the Indian Jones movies. While, I think that all of the Indiana Jones films are great, I believe this one is the best. This film shows action hero Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones) as he attempts to retrieve the ark of the covenant from a Nazi artifact dig site in Cairo Egypt. I rate this film 9/10
