Canton Shopping
Texas has grown a lot since the late 1800's. Many traditions have come and gone. One that is still the same is First Monday. In times of old a traveling circuit judge would make his way into east Texas and the small town of Canton. Residents would come from far and wide to see justice done, and naturally, do any trading while they were there. Because this judge traveled to town on the first Monday of every month people would travel in the weekend before, after all, horse and buggy travel could be slow. First Monday Trade Days was born, and has blossomed into a full festival.

Nowadays, instead of that traveling judge, Texas has a traveling Trade-show. While Canton is home to the worlds largest flea market of its type other Texas towns continue the tradition and spirit of the traveling swap-meet. These towns have similar swaps in conjunction with their circuit judge schedule.

Second Monday Flea Market
Bowie Texas is host to Second Monday. Vendors set up on Friday's (preceding the second Monday of the month) and sell their wares until Sunday. Bowie's vendor facilities have shower facilities and restrooms. Visitors are invited to come and shop till they drop at over 5 acres of vendor lots.

The city of Bowie strives to make Second Monday a fun family experience. Children can watch the shows presented by the local theater, or get their faces painted at one of the outdoor booths. The Bowie Trade Days offer shoppers a great selection of goods and the smaller crowds are easy to navigate. Those who miss the First Monday festivities in Canton can come to Bowie the next weekend and enjoy all they have to offer.

Third Monday McKinney Texas
McKinney Texas is home to Third Mondays. 25,000 shoppers make the drive to North Texas for the Third Monday celebration. A common theme exists within these traveling trade shows. Vendors display homemade goods to the public, great food can be bought at reasonable prices, and family fun is on the agenda. Whether you are searching for antiques, or just have a hankering for some good beef jerky, you can find it at Third Monday in McKinney Texas.

Fouth Monday Whitewright Texas
Whitewright, Texas is host to, yep you guessed it, Fourth Monday. While you may be getting confused on the dates you can rest assured that the Fourth Monday trade show is a great experience. While the Fourth Monday event in Whitewright, Texas is small the townsfolk are big on hospitality. 150 vendors wake up bright and early to open shop and sell merchandise to the public.

Flea Market Finds
Many Texas towns host monthly and annual flea markets. Shoppers can find antiques, furniture, hunting and fishing supplies, and designs by local artisans. Tourists come from all around to shop at these trade fairs and boost the local economy. Texas has a long history of trading. In days of old farmers and ranchers haggled over equipment and livestock. Today these trade festivals are a chance to get out and enjoy the heritage of Texas. Many vendors make this their permanent business and travel to these shows with their family to market their goods.

One thing is for certain; it isn't hard to find a flea market in Texas. It is even easier to find family fun, amidst great folks. For over 100 years, Texas residents, have gathered in these towns and traded goods among friends. Now, tourists, visit from as far away as New York and Washington. Traveling around on the trade circuit has been a yearly tradition in many families. Come on out to a traveling flea market in your area and see what the fuss is all about.

Hey Emily,
Welcome to Texas! First Monday in Canton is the weekend before the first Monday of the month. You will have a blast! Make sure to look at the 25 tips for Visiting Canton First Monday. You definitely DON'T want to be carrying every purchase uphill lol. The layout of the town can be deceiving. Most new comers think "Oh that isn't to far." When in reality it is over a mile, uphill. (steep grade) Carrying 25 extra pounds would turn that walk into a bad time.

I think Canton is right outside of Dallas? I'll have to visit when I go up there to visit my sister! I'll check out the other article because I definitely dont want to be carrying 25 extra pounds uphill especially in addition to pushing a stroller and carrying everything that comes along with bringing a toddler, lol! Thanks!
