Training your dog should be a pleasant experience for you as well as your dog. Basic obedience commands are crucial to your dogs well being. Training consists of showing your dog that you're in charge and that's what will lead to a happy existence not only for you but for your dog as well.

* Choke collar, not a prong collar
* A leather or nylon leash

The first command you'll want to teach your dog is "come". This is a mandatory important command for your dog to learn. To teach this command use rewards as a way of praising your dog when it does what you want it to. The "come" command needs to be practiced frequently as some dogs don't master it right away. The key to learning this basic command is to be persistent and repetitious in repeating the word "come" When the dog comes to you praise it with a delicious treat that it can't resist. This will further your training and reinforce the dog to associate something good when it does the command.

Use of a proper choke collar is fundamental to training your dog. The choke collar should leave about an inch of slack at the neck so to get the dogs attention by snapping the leash. To teach the dog how to heel have the dog on your right side and snap the leash if the dog strays to far ahead of you. Rein enforce the command over and over until the dog obeys. Allow some slack of the leash and before using a choke collar make sure you know how to properly use one with your dog. It's vital that the choker is correctly placed on the dog otherwise the dog will choke itself. The choker should release and snap easily if it doesn't do that then the collar is not properly on the dog. Get help with the choker if you're not exactly sure how to put it on yourself. When you purchase the choker ask how do I properly put the collar on my dog. It would be wise to take the dog with you so it can be fitted with the right size collar.

Don't feed your dog before a training lesson because it tends to make the dog not as alert
* Use the recommended leash and choke collar
* Keep training lessons short about 10-15 minutes twice a day
