Training for A Walkathon
Preparing for a charitable walkathon is serious business that requires a significant amount of training and preparation. Before you walk in a charitable walkathon, invest in a high quality pair of sneakers and very comfortable clothing, including rain gear, since you don't know what the weather will be like over the course of the three days of your walkathon.
If you are training for a walkathon in the late spring or early summer, you will want to begin your training as early as possible (by January of the same year at the latest). Your best bet is to exercise aerobically every day if possible. You may want to set up a consultation with a personal trainer to design an appropriate training program for you.
Remember that you are walking for an extremely important reason. When you feel motivated and inspired, this can help you stick to your exercise routine until the time comes for you to participate in the multi-day walkathon.
Choose a cause that matters enormously to you. For instance, if you have a relative who is a breast cancer survivor, you may want to select the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. After all, your motivation level is crucial to your success.
When you walk in a charitable walkathon, seek out support. This is a huge endeavor, and not something to be taken lightly or to take on all by yourself without any emotional support. If possible, get involved with a team of fellow walkers so that you can encourage each other "when the going gets tough," not only during the training process, but also during the walkathon itself.
