Trans Resveratrol - What Is It?
Resveratrol has become a hot topic for scientists after it was discovered to be the active ingredient in red wine that may cause Europeans to be able to eat high fat diets with less occurrences of heart and weight problems than people in other countries who ate similar diets, but didn't consume wine regularly.
Resveratrol is naturally produced by plants as an antibiotic when they are attacked by bacteria or fungi. Resveratrol is found in strong concentrations in the skins of red grapes, the seeds of Muscadine grapes, mulberries, cranberries, peanuts, soybeans, and a plant called Japanese Knotweed. Most resveratrol supplements are derived from the Japanese Knotweed plant.
Because red wine is fermented with the skins of red grapes, it contains resveratrol. Red wines made from Pinot Noir grapes have the highest concentrations of resveratrol.
Resveratrol naturally contains many potent antioxidants and is an anti-inflammatory agent. It may be an effective anti-viral as well. Trans resveratrol is the most stable form of transveratrol. It is better absorbed by the body because it is so small that it penetrates cells more easily than resveratrol.
Resveratrol helps promote heart health. Resveratrol promotes a healthy heart in several ways. It assists in lowering blood pressure. Resveratrol strengthens the tiny capillary veins. It eradicates free radicals that can cause heart damage. Resveratrol also helps to minimize plaque in the arteries.
Resveratrol is showing promise as an effective anti-aging supplement. It also may improve joint mobility, improve memory, and boost the immune system. Resveratrol may be helpful in stabilizing blood sugar levels for diabetics. Researchers are studying resveratrol to determine if it can be an effective weapon in the fight against cancer.
Trans-resveratrol is a promising supplement in other ways, too. Resveratrol may protect vision, protect the skin from damage caused by UV rays, and protect the body from damage caused by pollutants in the environment.
People who take trans-resveratrol or resveratrol supplements regularly report having more energy and stamina. Some claim it helps with weight loss. Is trans-resveratrol the newest nutritional fad or a miracle supplement? Only study results will tell.
