traveling cheap

Having an enjoyable vacation is still possible even if you are on a very tight budget. With some research, a little effort and a bit of practice, you can easily travel the world without spending too much. It is true that the tourism industry is exactly as its name implies, a business, and they will always try their best to get you to stay at luxurious hotels and sign up for expensive cruise packages. This is the reason why you have to think out of the box: Ask. Research. Learn.

Tour around your city

Being a tourist in your own city is also a great experience. There are a lot of things that your own city has to offer that you may be taking for granted. You can try skating, skiing or just strolling around the park. If you haven’t seen the museums and art galleries around your city, take the time to drop by for a visit.

Appreciate the simple thrill of traveling

Traveling lets you explore new things and places, meet new friends, taste different cuisines, and experience unfamiliar cultures. It allows you to discover so many things about life, the world, and about yourself. Traveling cheap is possible, that is if you are willing to settle for what’s accessible and enjoy what nature has to offer.

You don’t have to go to the other side of the world just to experience and discover new things – why not check out a nearby town? Stay there for a while and be acquainted with the locals. It is also a good idea to go hiking on the mountains or go to a secluded beach and enjoy the sunset.

Road trip

While hitchhiking can be exciting and fun, it is also dangerous and expensive. You can get a slightly similar outdoors experience by going on a road trip. Get a map and be adventurous – go someplace you haven’t been before. If you don’t have the knack for map reading or you cannot tell where is North or where is South, make sure to do some research beforehand. This way, you’ll be able to know more about your destination and how to get there.

Travel light

Traveling cheap simply means traveling light. You don’t have to bring your whole closet when you travel. If you want to save money on baggage fees, avoid bringing things that you don’t really need. You go on vacation because you want to relax, so leave everything behind – your laptop, your fancy clothes, your hair dryer, and even your television.

What better way to enjoy the scenery but by walking? Aside from the fact that it can save you a lot of money on your transportation cost, walking can also allow you to take in the surroundings and get some much needed exercise.

Take advantage of discounts and deals

As a traveler, it is important to be in the know when it comes to discounts and great deals. There are a lot of tourist destinations that offer low-priced rates for teachers, students and even senior citizens. There are also discounts and special offers during certain days of the year.

The hotel’s breakfast

When traveling, you don’t have to spend too much on food. These days, numerous hotels offer free breakfast so make sure to have a heavy breakfast. On the other hand, if you are going to stay somewhere with a refrigerator, it is a good idea to buy your own groceries and stock food that will last you for the entirety of your stay.

Book early

It is recommended to do a lot of planning for your vacation especially if your goal is to travel out of the country. Travel experts say that the earlier you book your reservations for your flight and hotel, the better. Another advantage of booking early is that you’ll have more opportunity to discover great discounts and packages.

Last but not the least: be flexible

Traveling cheap is synonymous to flexibility. If you tend to be strict in your travels (what to do and where to do it), expect that you are going to pay more. It is essential to be flexible when it comes to your travel dates and destinations in order to save on airfare.

Being flexible should also apply when you reach your destination. Having an open itinerary lets you to have numerous opportunities. Frequent travelers know that any kind of travel experience is worthwhile so if you are interested in going to two similar trips to different destinations, it is best to opt for the cheaper one because chances are, it will be just as exciting and adventurous as the pricier one.
