Traveling to Coronado Island

By Edited Jul 2, 2016 0 0

Coronado Island is one of the top vacation spots in California. Frequented by many A-list celebrities, from Charlie Chaplin to Brad Pitt, Coronado Island offers a relaxing atmosphere, near perfect weather, incredible ocean views, and one of the best beaches in San Diego. In fact, Coronado Beach was named one of the best family beaches in the world by the Travel Channel. In order to make your stay in Coronado the best it can be, here are some helpful tips.

Booking Your Hotel
It's always recommended that you make hotel reservations a few weeks before your actual stay. Booking your rooms in Coronado online is a good idea. You avoid a lot of the hassles of making hotel reservations and ensure that everything is ready by the time you arrive. As for choosing a hotel in Coronado, you have quite a bit of options.

The first choice is, of course, the famous Hotel del Coronado. This hotel was the historic setting for the classic Marilyn Monroe film Some Like it Hot, and it is the lodging of choice for many big-name celebrities. If you want a more affordable but still luxurious option, there are other beach hotels in Coronado to choose from, like the Coronado Beach Resort, which has condo suites with full kitchens, ocean views, private balconies and rooftop spas.

Getting to Coronado Island
If you arrive in San Diego by car, take the Coronado Bay Bridge, off the I-5 Freeway, to Coronado Island. It is a short drive over the bridge that offers a spectacular view of the city and the San Diego Bay. If you aren't driving, you can get from San Diego to Coronado Island via the Coronado Ferry. It's a colorful ride that offers plenty of photo ops. The ferry leaves every hour and runs from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

Take a Tour
A tour is a great way for you to get acquainted with the island after you've settled into your hotel room and gotten a good rest. There are guided walking tours that leave from the Glorietta Bay Inn. Or, if you'd rather not strain your legs too much, you can take a guided Segway tour or a pedicab tour by Coronado Pedicabs.

Seeing the City
From Coronado, you can go out to see the rest of the attractions that San Diego has to offer by taking the Old Town Trolley. It leaves from Coronado Island and makes a loop around the city, stopping at all the big attractions, including Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Horton Plaza, historic Old Town and Sea Port Village.
