Traveling to Indiana for your Family Vacation

By | Jul 29, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

When you hear the word "vacation," you will likely bring to mind images of beaches and palm trees. However, a relaxing vacation need not take place along the banks of the Atlantic. Instead, the attractions of Indiana provide a very real and exciting alternative! No matter what you desire, you can find it in Indiana (yes, even beaches). Among Indiana's top tourist attractions are its state parks, museums, amusement parks, and more. So here is a brief overview of what to expect from an Indiana family vacation.

Indiana State Parks

Indiana is blessed with natural beauty, and what better way to experience it then by visiting one of Indiana's multiple state parks? From the sandy dunes of Lake Michigan (Indiana Dunes State Park) to the cliffs and ravines of Turkey Run and the Shades down south, there is plenty to experience. And don't think the fun has to end just because summer is over! Pokagon State Park offers cross country skiing and has a toboggan run!

Indiana Museums

Indiana has dozens of museums, but two of my favorite can be found in the heart of Indianapolis, the state's capitol. In Indy you will find the famed Indianapolis Children's Museum as well as the Indiana State Museum. Both of these excellent museums have permanent collections and rotating exhibits, as well as huge IMAX theaters. Museums may be educational, but they prove to be some of Indiana's top tourist attractions.

Indiana Amusement Parks

Indiana is home to two amusement parks: Indiana Beach and Holiday World. While I admit that these ain't Disney World, they definitely are a fun way for families to spend some summer days! Both parks have record breaking roller coasters, as well as some more family oriented rides. In addition, they both have waterparks to help you escape the summer heat!

Well there you have it, a brief overview of what Indiana has to offer you on your Indiana family vacation.
