Treadmill Exercise Equipment - Things to Consider

By Edited May 7, 2016 0 2

Treadmills are a popular exercise machine. Treadmills are useful for times of inclement weather when it may be unpleasant to walk or run outside. If you are thinking about buying a treadmill, be sure to look around online for good deals. Read articles and follow links.

When looking for a treadmill, you may be looking for a cheap one. Some inexpensive treadmills do not have motors. They are just a conveyor belt that you move with your feet. It is difficult to walk or run on a manual treadmill.

Cheap treadmills may also be underpowered. More expensive models have higher horsepower motors. These treadmills run more smoothly and are more durable. For walking, a 1.5 horsepower continuous-duty motor is sufficient. For running you need to opt for at least a 2.0 horsepower continuous-duty motor.

If you are exercising on a treadmill with running, make sure that the treadmill is sturdy enough to support your weight, and has cushioning to lessen the impact from running. The handrails should also be sturdy and easy to grip. There should be no groaning, grinding or hesitation in the motor when you are running on it. The treadmill should feel solid, even at an incline.

It is important to size the treadmill correctly. It should be wide enough, and long enough to handle your stride. Also, consider safety. Make sure the there is an emergency shut-off key, clip or tether.

Something else to consider are the programming features. Some treadmills have programmed workouts that vary speed and simulated terrain. Choose the features which are important you. But regardless of which programming features you choose, the control panel should be easy to read and adjust while the treadmill is running.

Other things to consider are space and noise level. Some treadmills fold up to be space saving when not in use. Also treadmills are noisy. Make sure that you are comfortable with the noise level. This is especially important if you plan listen to music or to watch TV while you exercise.

Also consider the extras. A treadmill mat can protect the carpet from the treadmill and the treadmill from dust and carpet fibers. You may want a magazine holder or laptop holder,

So when you are buying a treadmill online, make sure you do your homework first and understand which treadmill you would like and its warranty details. The search online and follow links for deals. Be sure to compare taxes shipping costs and delivery options when comparing vendors.

Very good pointers for those interested in treadmills. Especially the noise and space factors. Those are definitely things that people tend to forget about - you need a high ceiling if you plan on running indoors!
