Treating Hemorrhoids

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins located within the lower rectum or anus. There are various ways for treating your hemorroids at home; however, most of the relief is only temporary, and the possibility of hemorrhoidal recurrences are high. Unless your digestive system stays active and healthy by eating plenty of fiber, drinking plenty of water, and exercising, the chance of you suffering from a relapse is probable. Depending on whether you are suffering from internal or external hemorrhoids, they can become very painful - even making daily tasks, such as sitting, extremely painful.

Hemorrhoids occur most often in people over thirty; however, half of the general population will have suffered from this condition in their lifetime. Hemorrhoids are commonly caused by constipation, childbirth, obesity, pregnancy, sitting for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects, and diarrhea. There are two type of hemorrhoids - internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids are the most common and often painless. The only symptoms you may notice are bright red blood spots on the stool or the toilet paper.

When these become enlarged, they can extend outside the anus, which is why internal hemorrhoids are often misdiagnosed by sufferers as external hemorrhoids. If internal hemorrhoids do protrude, they can bleed and become quite painful. External hemorrhoids' symptoms are known immediately by the extreme pain. Sometimes blood can pool inside the external hemorrhoid causing a blood clot. When this happens, the hemorrhoid is described as thrombosed and is extremely painful. Luckily, there are ways to alleviate some of the discomfort by treating your hemorroids from your home.

There are many over-the-counter creams, suppositories, and witch hazel pads available for treating your hemorroids. It is important to realize that these will not cure your hemorrhoids; they will simply alleviate your symptoms. Soaking in three warm baths per day can also ease some of the itching and pain. Fiber supplements and stool softeners are popular ways for treating hemorroids. These will not ease your itching, but they will help take some of the pressure off of your hemorrhoids as stool passes.

Surgical procedures is an option for getting rid of your hemorrhoids. Surgery is often a final recommendation by your physician if your hemorrhoid symptoms do not improve after several days or if your hemorrhoids are thrombosed. The tendency for hemorrhoids to recur is high, so even surgical methods sometimes need to be combined with other surgical procedures to combat your hemorrhoids the most efficiently and effectively.

It is important that you see your physician when your hemorrhoid symptoms do not go improve at all with home treatment or if you believe your hemorrhoids are prolapsed or thrombosed. Your hemorroids doctor will decide the best treatment possible for your current conditions.
